Libraries on the South Coast are some of the most popular gathering spots in communities throughout the region. Held in high esteem, libraries were so important to Coos County residents that years ago they set up a special tax base to pay for library operations. Those tax dollars ensure libraries are open in tiny towns such as Dora and Lakeside to the bigger cities of North Bend and Coos Bay. Over the years, many library have expanded services, offering Internet computers, classes and special programs featuring guest speakers from authors to historical experts, and even children's reading programs.
