The Oregon Department of Transportation will replace the bridge at the west end of the Elk Creek tunnel next week, forcing the closure of state Highway 38. The closure will run from 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, to 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8.

Westbound motorists from Interstate 5 to Reedsport are advised to take exit 136 at Sutherlin and follow state Highway 138 to Elkton. Eastbound motorists from Reedsport to points east should take Highway 138 to I-5 exit 136. Local travel will be open between Elkton and the west side of the tunnel and between Drain and the weigh station on the east side of the tunnel. Detours will be posted.

Meyers — George and Roc-helle Meyers, of Hermiston, a son, Daniel Herman Meyers, 8 pounds, 201⁄2 inches long, born at 7:59 a.m. on July 29, 2008. Grandparents are Kevin and Michelle Hedgepeth, formerly of North Bend and Bill and Lorre Meyers of Hermiston.

Kelly Carestia and Tim Franson have announced their engagement. The couple plans to be married on Sept. 13 in a ceremony at the United Evangelical Free Church in Klamath Falls, followed by a reception at the Shilo Inn.
