GPS, online shortcuts can kill you
Americans may have the finest technologies, but as people amass gadgets, there seems to be a corresponding decrease in common sense.
Consider that last week Curry County’s search and rescuers not once, but twice, trekked into the Coast Range above Agness to rescue stranded travelers. These stories shouldn’t elicit laughs about the silly travelers and hungry hunters. They should remind people, even locals, that winter can be deadly in the mountains. And we need reminding.

Can't wait to enjoy the Coos Bay area
We will be moving to the Coos Bay area soon, after the first of the year. We wish to say thank you to The World newspaper for good monthly prices, so we are able to receive the paper here in Prineville before we get moved over to the beautiful area on the Oregon Coast.
It’s nice to have a local paper with local and statewide news, from weather to the TV guide and comics. Let’s not forget the horoscope and also the classifieds are important. We wish to thank all the staff at The World for doing a good job. The paper here in Prineville is plain and comes just twice weekly. We will be so glad to get moved out of Central Oregon. We are tired of the cold winters and the snow. It will be nice to just sit and have it rain and walk the beaches of Coos Bay and meet new people.
