Youth Sports: 'Fit' students qualify for regional

Seven boys and girls competed on Veterans Day in the first-ever NBA Fit/WNBA Fit Challenge at the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon.
Every participant competed in five different areas for 30 seconds each to see how many repetitions they could do for each activity.
The events included line sprints, jump rope, speed revolution, wall pass and defensive shuffle.
The top scorer in each age group became eligible to compete at the regional level.
The local winners were Kaleb Messner (boys 8 and under), Kyrin Locken (boys 9-10), Luke Riley (boys 13-14), Jessica Ross (girls 9-10) and Mary Emma Riley (girls 11-12).
Messner had scores of 45 for jump rope, 34 for wall pass, 28 for defensive shuffle, 52 for speed revolution and 26 for line sprints for a total of 185.
Also in the age group, Brady Messner had scores of 41, 30, 22, 38 and 24 for a total of 155; while George McAlmont had scores of 15, 22, 26, 20 and 22 for a total of 105.
Locken had a total of 187, with scores of 47 for jump rope, 32 for wall pass, 20 for defensive shuffle, 60 for speed revolution and 28 for line sprints.
Luke Riley’s total was 249, including scores of 71 for jump rope, 42 for wall pass, 32 for defensive shuffle, 74 for speed revolution and 30 for line sprints.
Ross had scores of 48 for jump rope, 28 for wall pass, 24 for defensive shuffle, 44 for speed revolution and 20 for line sprints, totaling 164.
Mary Riley’s scores were 77 for jump rope, 28 for wall pass and defensive shuffle, 60 for speed revolution and 26 for line sprints, with a total of 219.
Boys & Girls Club sports director Karen Bauder extended congratulations to the participants and thanks to the volunteers, including Lindsay Sommers, Kara Miller, Jessica Hatley, Jennie Bateman and Heather Weber, all members of the women’s basketball team at Southwestern Oregon Community College.

Bay Area Sportsman’s Association sportsmanship and official awards for Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon volleyball games played on Nov. 14.
