COOS BAY — The feds haven’t granted approval for a liquefied natural gas terminal on Coos Bay’s North Spit, but developers received some good news on the local level.

The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay agreed Thursday to extend land purchase agreements with Jordan Cove Energy Project and Weyerhaeuser Co. The timber company would sell 1,300 acres of land on the North Spit to the port, which would transfer 147 acres to Jordan Cove. The port would retain the rest of the land, setting aside 48 acres to build a slip dock, which Jordan Cove would lease.

The deal is for $25 million, which the port previously paid to Weyerhaeuser through loans from Umpqua Bank and the state. Under the new deal, Weyerhaeuser will return the money, which will pay off the loans. The port then will make $450,000 quarterly payments to the company from $480,000 Jordan Cove pays to the port every three months. The LNG developer also will pay the port $600,000 during the first six months of the year-long deal. It includes one six-month extension, that must be exercised with six-months notice.

If Jordan Cove executes the deal, it will pay $11 million to the port, $10 million of which will go to Weyerhaeuser. The rest of the port’s payments to the timber company will come from taxes generated by the LNG terminal.

The new deal greatly reduces the port’s risk, since it won’t have $25 million debt and Jordan Cove would pay for any potential default costs, said Executive Director Jeff Bishop.

“That’s the beauty of this particular deal,” he said.

The port, which hasn’t spent any taxpayer dollars on the deal, has been paying interest on the loans since 2006 with Jordan Cove dollars.

Jody McCaffree, the leader of local opposition to the LNG project, urged the commission not to approve the extension. She said the property isn’t worth $25 million and the port would be better served pursuing renewable energy options.

“I think you are betting a lot on one industry,” she said.

The port commission voted 4-0 in favor of the agreement. Commissioner Jerry Hampel was celebrating his wedding anniversary and was excused, said Commission President David Kronsteiner.

Commissioner Dan Smith made the motion to approve the deal and Caddy McKeown seconded it. They joined Kronsteiner and Brady Scott in voting to accept the agreement.

After taking the vote, McKeown thanked Bishop for negotiating a good deal.

“We haven’t thanked you for the effort you put in, so I want to take the time to do that now,” she said.

As requested by EVERYMAN (In the pipe business)....

Read up & get informed/educated about LNG at www.lngpollutes.org

Hoping the uninformed Oregon citizens find out this California LNG at Jordon Cove is a SCAM & the other pro Bob Braddock followers that have either back door sweet $$$ deals or just plain going to profit from this California LNG SCAM at Jordon Cove. Even FERC knows how Bob Braddock has changed his stories as suited in every situation to get this through the back door by refusing to rule on this project after 6 months (It's NEVER been over 3 months before in ruling on any LNG placement application) & hoping ole story teller Bob Braddock just goes away, since time is his enemy!

P.S. To EVERYMAN (In the pipe business) There's a nice factual letter written about the FLAWED EIS report titled "Jordan Cove EIS lacks analysis" by Ron Sadler in the World newspaper's archives. Also, anyone can look up prior polls in the World to prove every poll taken by the World newspaper has MAJORITY against this SCAM. Simple stuff, but I'm glad I could help point you in the right direction...

Attention: Oregon's Attorney General Office,

Please investigate possible corruption with all players involved (Port commissioners/Gov Ted, CoosBay/North Bend city councilors, Coos county commissioner's & anyone else rubber stamping this Lng SCAM at Jordon Cove that this area doesn't need or want (Even FERC finds it confusing on what Bob Braddock is telling them), along with the following facts:

EIS report flawed/incomplete.

No need for this project to Oregon or it's citizens for this EXPENSIVE gas.

Bob Braddock has always changed his so called facts on this project to try to slide it through the back door on everyone involved.

Air polluter that violates Oregon air quality laws.

Placement in Tsunami zone that violates 2002 Safety building requirements.

Finally, NO vote on this project even though the "MAJORITY" Oregon citizens are against this project.

Local LNG supporters will face the voters, their neighbors and their political futures by continuing to receive special interest money, Real Estate commisions and legal fees for a project that endangers the Oregon Coast.
FERC isn't in a hurry to sign off on something that the Governor of Oregon says has issues that need to be resolved first. And federal folks just don't shove stuff like this past governor's noses without approval. Without the Governor's signing off on the project FERC won't shouldn't budge. EIC hasn't been completed, there is no MSDS information out there, there is no emergency plan evaluation. So how do supporters plan on getting approval before these things are completed? Obviously WEYCO and a few others have nervous bookeepers. The local LNG supporters are afraid the money the backers are flashing to grease the wheels of this explosive disaster waiting to happen are gonna miss their pockets. For some of them it's their only hope of graduating from political stooge to full time schills.
Call the Governor and tell him you don't want the same thing that happened in San Juan to happen here. What if the New Carissa had been carrying LNG?

Reminder here folks, the LNG project should not be forced down your throats by a few greedy people willing to put lives at risk in order to make a buck. The best thing that you can do is keep emailing the Governor your concerns. Here is is address.

It is amazing that so many people do not want this deal here, yet the board keeps going forward.

I call on "The World" reporters & its publication to find out why it keeps going forward despite local resentment and hostility towards this project.

Oh great...more screaming.

Get ready, reader...here come the bullet points, personal attacks, and ALL-CAP tirades from the vocal, yet devoted, lunatic fringe...

Everyman...a big hunk of awesome, with extra awesome sauce on top!

Again I ask...are we so hard up around here we can destroy the North Spit for this dangerous prospective? Yet we cannot drive on the North Spit because of a bird? What will happen to the Snowy Plover? More importantly, what will happen to the beach and access? Oh wait, we cant build a fire to roast a hot dog anymore as it is, but now we'll have a gas plant and won't be able to ride wheelers on the beach in case of a spark that could blow up Coos Bay/North Bend. Cool, I wanna live here til I die.
