An open house with light refreshments for family and friends will be held for Don Maurice Pierce, 79, of Bandon at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, in the house Don built, 1180 Second St. NE in Bandon.
Don was born May 7, 1930, in Coquille, the son of Hadley Maurice and Dena Esmerelda (Ellingson) Curts. He died Nov. 14, 2009, in Bandon.
An Oregonian all his life, Don played football for Coquille High School, Linfield College and Oregon Institute of Technology, now OTI.
He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean conflict, where he proved himself to be a brave soldier and true friend.
After his honorable discharge from military service, Don returned to Oregon and married Careen Molthu. He attended Oregon Institute of Technology, then the couple lived in Coquille for two years before moving to Bandon, where they made their home. Don worked for Moore Mill then served as public works director for the city of Bandon, retiring in 1989.
Don was a “F/M man”: family, friends, flying, fishing, food, find it, fix it, Frosted Flakes, musician, mechanic and maker of things. He also enjoyed chocolate.
Don will be missed by his wife, Careen of Bandon; daughter, Tauna Ree Tiscornia and her husband, Ken of Bow, Wash.; son, David Pierce and his wife, Cynthia of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; and grandchildren, Sara, Christopher and Emily Pierce, and Kayla and Matthew Tiscornia.
He was preceded in death by brother, Art Pierce; and his parents, Don and Dena Pierce.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gardner Funeral Home, (509) 493-1323.
