Officials at Bay Clinic expect to receive a shipment of seasonal flu vaccine later this week.
Suppliers said they expected to ship 300 doses to the Coos Bay doctors’ office, said Linda Means, the clinic’s office manager. She wasn’t sure when the vaccine would be available, but suggested those who are interested should call the clinic later this week.
“We do give flu vaccine to people who are not our patients,” she said.
Seasonal flu vaccine has become scarce in Coos County. Coos County Public Health has exhausted its supply, as have the pharmacies at Fred Meyer in Coos Bay and the Coos Bay and North Bend Bi-Marts.
Unlike the H1N1 vaccine, the county and state don’t play a role in distributing the seasonal flu vaccine. The county is receiving more doses of H1N1 flu vaccine, and will resume administering it to students at Coos Bay and North Bend schools later this week.
Coos County Public Health, in collaboration with the Coos County school district, has scheduled H1N1 immunization clinics for students at Marshfield High School and Hillcrest Elementary School on Thursday, and for students at Sunset Middle School and Madison Elementary School on Friday.
The Thursday clinics are scheduled for Marshfield from noon to 2:30 p.m. and at Hillcrest from 3 to 5:30 p.m. The Friday clinics for Sunset will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and at Madison from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The H1N1 vaccine will be given free of charge to students whose parents have signed and returned consent forms to the schools. The vaccine will be in the form of a shot. There will be a limited supply of nasal spray for the younger students.
