John F. Nanninga

A memorial service will be held for John F. Nanninga, 65, of Coos Bay, at 3 p.m., Monday, Nov.16, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3355 Virginia Ave. in North Bend. Cremation rites were held under the direction of Nelson’s Bay Area Mortuary.
John was born June 2, 1944, in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., the son of Howard Albert and Yvonne Francis ((Morrill) Nanninga. He died Nov. 12, 2009, at his Coos Bay home after a brief battle with cancer.
He was rasied and educated in Sacramento, Calif. John worked for Unigas for several years until going to work for British Leyland Motors. He worked as a salesman and later as the northwest regional manager for the Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and MG automobile lines until retiring in 1977. He moved to Fruitland, Utah, where he met and married Patricia McKinnon. They were married on Nov. 6, 2009, in Fruitland and were later sealed for time and eternity at the Jordan River Temple. They moved in 1988 to Coos Bay, where they have since lived.
John enjoyed fishing, cars, playing all types of games with anyone who would play, and he loved candy. John never stopped learning, he studied about ancient China, about the natural world. John was a spiritual, warm hearted and gentle man, he loved his family and his many friends unconditionally.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Nanninga of Coos Bay; daughter, Carole and Erich Asche of Spokane, Wash.; son, Jason and Jean Nanninga of Vacaville, Calif.; daughter, Nicole and Than Examilotis of Coos Bay; daughter, Jennifer and Barry Shumway of Hyrum, Utah; son, Matthew Benson of Heber, Utah; daughter, Vonia Nanninga and Nick Johnson of Coos Bay; son, Jonathan Nanninga of Coos Bay; eight grandchildren, Jacqueline, Morgan, Ethan, Keltin, Jaden, Ronan, Addisyn and Makya; mother, Yvonne Seeders of Fair Oaks, Calif; brother, Howard Nanninga of Folsom, Calif.; sister, Patty Pryor of Sacramento, Calif.; sister, Lois Smith of Hornick, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and three special friends, Russ, Robin and Vaughn.
