The Coos County District Attorney and Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to track the whereabouts of murder victim Jayme Austin’s car early last week. They also want to track the movement of suspect Patrick Horath’s pickup.

Austin drove a dark-colored 2001 Nissan Sentra four-door and Horath has a 1989 Toyota pickup.

District Attorney R. Paul Frasier said learning where those vehicles went on Monday and Tuesday will help reveal the circumstances surrounding the 31-year-old Fairview woman’s death.

In a Saturday press release, the Coos County District Attorney’s Office revealed partial autopsy results for the body of Austin, who went missing from her family’s property on Monday.

Investigators believe Austin’s brother-in-law, Patrick Horath, strangled her in her mother’s home, Frasier said in the press release.

The autopsy showed that Austin died as a result of asphyxiation caused by manual strangulation, a district attorney’s office press release said.

“It clearly wasn’t a ligature ... so the only way it could have been done would have been manually ... by hands or an arm shoved up against the throat,” Frasier said. “At this point our best guess is that she died at (her mom’s) the residence.”

He said he has a theory regarding the method, but didn’t elaborate.

Frasier isn’t ready to say whether Austin also was sexually assaulted.

“I can’t talk about that right now,” the DA said of a possible rape. But, in a case like this it’s always a normal procedure to examine for such evidence in an autopsy, he said.

Frasier said he couldn’t comment about any physical evidence left by her killer. However, there will be additional lab tests done. Those will include evidence gathered from under Austin’s finger nails, genital area, and other body parts associated with sexual assault. Frasier said that will be sent to an Oregon State Police crime lab in Springfield.

Horath remained this morning at the Coos County jail since his arrest Thursday night. Frasier said he and investigators aren’t considering any other suspects.

“There’s just no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved in this,” Frasier said.

Horath, Austin’s brother-in-law, led deputies to Austin’s gravesite up Middle Creek Road late Thursday night following his arrest. The 45-year-old Fairview resident had helped her family search for her on their shared property before Austin’s mother, Cindy Gisholt, first reported her missing to police on the afternoon of Nov. 9. Horath lived with his wife — Austin’s sister, Alyssa — in a home between Austin’s and their mother’s, on the family’s property.

Early that morning, Austin called Gisholt and her boss to say the water at her Fairview home wasn’t working. She told them she meant to take a shower at Gisholt’s home before going to work.

Investigators released her body Saturday to a local funeral home.

HRATL: if you see this PLEASE call the police!!
