A service will be held for Francis “Bud” W. Brown, 85, of Bandon, at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Pacific Community Church, 48967 U.S. Highway 101 in Bandon for friends and family.
Bud was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Silverton, the second child of Sherley and Bernice Brown. He died Nov. 9, 2009, in Bandon at his home.
His family moved to the Southern Oregon coast in 1939. Bud was a paratrooper during World War II and was wounded in Italy and spent 13 months in a military hospital.
In 1945, he married M. Irene Haley. They divorced in 1957. As a single parent he raised four children, Shirley Forbes, Thomas “Tom” Brown, Mary Strain and Peggy Staten. Bud married Virginia Wright in 1970, which gave him four more children, Diana Martin, Rita Pennington, Danny Keeler and Lyle Keeler. Together they had 31 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Bud lived most of his life on the cattle ranch he and his brothers, Floyd and Robert, owned, south of Bandon on Lower Four Mile. He worked for Rogge Lumber for several years while ranching. Before full retirement in 2008, Bud installed septic systems for 35 years in Coos and Curry counties. The business is still operated by his son, Tom and grandson, Joshua Brown.
Bud loved the outdoors and had many fishing and hunting trips to Eastern Oregon and Canada. At the age of 83, Bud received Jesus Christ as his personal savior on one of his fishing trips. He and his wife, Virginia, enjoyed traveling and took many trips together in the United States and abroad.
Bud truly loved his family and was always there with a helping hand. He had a positive attitude and great sense of humor. His family has always said it will be hard to fill his shoes.
Bud is survived by his four siblings, Shirley “Dell” Albro of McKinleyville, Calif., Robert Brown of Bandon, Theodore “Ted” Brown of Bandon and Nancy Brown of Bandon.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Margaret Stewart, Ann Baggett, Floyd Brown and Benny Brown.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, OR 97420; or Pacific Community Church, 48967 U.S. Highway 101, Bandon, OR 97411.
