North Bend’s girls and boys soccer teams were eliminated from the playoffs in a pair of road losses on Tuesday.
The girls fell 7-0 at Gladstone, while the boys lost 4-1 at Seaside.
Gladstone scored against North Bend’s girls in the eighth minute, and the Bulldogs then shut down the Gladiators until back-to-back goals in the 35th and 37th minutes.
“We played pretty well for most of the first half,” North Bend coach Dustin Hood said.
About 10 minutes into the second half, Hood started subbing in all his players on the bench.
“Everyone on the team got to play and experience a little state soccer playoffs,” he said.
Hood credited the Gladiators with being a quick and well-disciplined team with great passing skills.
Amber Jensen had a hat trick for the Gladiators, with all three goals coming on set plays off of corner kicks. McKenna Hopkins scored twice.
The loss finished a season that included just the second playoff win in North Bend’s program history.
“We’ve had a phenomenal season,” Hood said. “Hopefully we can build off it.
“Hopefully, it’s just the first of many years to come.”
Gladstone advances to face the winner of today’s match between Marist and Oregon Episcopal.
North Bend’s boys, meanwhile, also saw their season end.
Seaside got goals by Jackson Meyer, Jason Spear, Henry Broderick and Christian Ortiz.
The first three goals came in a nine-minute span during the opening 21 minutes of the match, and Seaside went in front 4-0 with just over 18 minutes remaining.
North Bend avoided the shutout when Jonathan Fall scored with eight minutes to go.
Conner Keith had a number of solid saves for North Bend during the match, played at the Warrenton Soccer Complex in rainy conditions.
Seaside hosts Molalla in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Bruins split matches
Brookings-Harbor’s boys became the only South Coast team to win a playoff match Tuesday when the Bruins edged visiting Henley 1-0 on Tuesday.
The Bruins are home against Saturday in the quarterfinals against Cottage Grove, which was champion of the Sky-Em League and shut out Yamhill-Carlton on Tuesday.
Brookings-Harbor’s girls, meanwhile, matched North Valley 1-1 through regulation, only to fall to the Knights 4-3 on penalty kicks.
North Valley will face Sisters in the quarterfinals.
