Lakers lose two in volleyball

The Southwestern Oregon Community College volleyball team lost at Linn-Benton Community College on Friday night and lost to Chemeketa Community College on Saturday in three games.
Southwestern lost to Linn-Benton, 16-25, 25-17, 25-21, 24-26.
“That was a tough loss for us,” Southwestern coach John Speasl said.
Rose Mattson led the offense with 11 kills, Katie Jolliffe had eight kills and Erin Fullerton added six. Setters Alex Wegner and Hilary Hendricks had 19 and 12 assists, respectively. Jolliffe led the defense with 21 digs, and Taylor Scott added 17. Fullerton had four solo blocks, and Emily Cronk had three.
“It was a decent night of production, just didn’t quite score enough points,” Speasl said. “Had those guys on the ropes several times.”
Saturday, the Lakers lost to Chemeketa, 25-23, 25-19, 25-21. The Lakers dropped to 1-8. Southwestern plays at Umpqua Community College today to finish the season.
Men’s soccer
Southwestern’s men’s soccer team lost at home 4-1 to last-place South Puget Sound Community College on Saturday to end the season. The Lakers dropped to 4-8-1.
Women’s soccer
The Lakers’ women’s soccer team lost 2-0 at home to Lane Community College to finish the season 1-10-2.
Lane’s Stephanie Pepperling scored the first goal in the 7th minute, and Alyssa Vera scored in the 61st minute.
