Don Brooks

A memorial service will be held for Don Brooks Sr., 85, of Langlois, at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Reedsport Assembly of God, 509 N. 19th St.
Don was born Feb. 24, 1924, in Lancaster, Calif., to Clarence and Marion Brooks. He died Oct. 21, 2009, in Coos Bay. He lived most of his life in Oregon.
After graduating from high school, he married Peggy and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. When Don returned from serving, he and his wife raised six children.
As a young man he was involved in the family farm business. Most of his life he worked for Caterpillar and Pape’ Bros. in Coquille and Eugene. In his early retirement he logged his own timber in Bandon. He and Peggy raised their children in the Christian church. In his later years, he was a member of the Langlois Community Church. He was a longtime resident with a multitude of friends.
Don was an avid hunter and involved his family with many camping trips. He spent many hours boating and weekend outings also with his family. He truly respected and enjoyed the outdoors.
Don is survived and will be truly missed by one son, Don Brooks and wife, Pearline; two daughters, Eloise Wagoner and husband, Dan, and Tamala Schamp; nine grandchildren, Kelly Atterbury and husband, Chris, Kristy Lathers and husband, Bruce, Kyle Brooks, Melissa Diamond, Joe Brooks and wife, Jody, Molly Wright and husband, Brad, Stephanie Blachly and husband, Josh, Brandy Frick and husband, Travis and David Wagoner and wife, Melia; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; four nieces; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; sons, David, Ron and Jim Brooks; brother, James Brooks; and sister, Eleanor Tucker.
