Siuslaw’s boys and girls cross country teams weren’t able to live up to their top rankings in Class 4A, each finishing second at the state meet on Saturday at Lane Community College.

Bandon’s girls also earned a trophy in the meet by finishing third in the Class 3A girls race.

Siuslaw’s girls were trying to take their sixth straight crown, and had the top two individual finishers, but couldn’t hold off Marist.

Raelyn Robinson won the individual title in 19 minutes, 47 seconds, with teammate Samantha Pummer three seconds back. Teammates Linda Paredes and Clarita Twombly were ninth and 16th, respectively, but the Vikings were hampered by a 63rd-place finish from Lillian Lee, the team’s fifth runner.

That allowed Marist to take the team title. The Spartans had all five scoring runners in the top 25 and finished with 58 points, to 66 for Siuslaw.

North Bend placed 10th, led by Katie Romanko, who had her best-ever finish at state by crossing the line in fifth place. Far West League champion Chelsea Spencer of Sutherlin was third, giving the league four of the top five finishers.

In the Class 4A boys race, Siuslaw’s Joseph Campbell, Jacob Berkner and Brad Finnell were fourth through sixth, respectively, but Henley had six of the top 19 finishers, led by individual champion Jed Tolbert, to take the team title. The Hornets finished with 49 points to 57 for Siuslaw. North Bend was 12th.

Class 3A-2A-1A

Bandon’s girls had their best finish since placing second in 2003.

St. Mary’s edged Catlin Gabel by one point for the title, finishing with 73 points. Bandon scored 131, with Valley Catholic at 141 and Myrtle Point just out of the trophy hunt at 151.

Rachel Ledig placed 20th to lead the Tigers, with Hailey Hewitson at 31st, Megan Haueter 40th, Samantha Sutherland 50th and Katie Neis 58th. The other Tigers were Claire Ledig and Audrey Moss-Strong.

District champion Sydney Snook of Gold Beach placed 14th. Myrtle Point was led by Maegen Miranda’s 18th-place effort.

Rogue River’s Cole Watson, who won the district title at Bullards Beach State Park, was the only runner all day to break 16 minutes, winning the boys title in 15:52.

Bandon’s Isaac Taylor finished 26th to lead the Tigers to eighth place. Nyssa easily won the team title.

Class 5A

Josh Elliott won the individual title and four other Crater teammates finished in the top 11 as the Comets cruised to the boys team title.

Marshfield placed 11th, led by Andrew Davidson’s 40th-place finish.

Summit won the girls title by placing six runners in the top 14, led by individual champion Megan Fristoe. The Intermountain Conference had the top seven finishers.

Class 6A

Jesuit’s girls ran away with their eighth straight title, finished with 36 points, 55 in front of runner-up Tualatin. Annamarie Maag and Payton Schutte were the top two individuals to lead the Crusaders.

Central Catholic won the boys title with 63 points, 25 better than Jesuit. North Medford’s Drew Jordan was the individual champion.
