Coos Bay police officers shook down some dorm rooms at Southwestern Oregon Community College on Friday morning in their ongoing investigation into a recent sexual assault.

Officers served several search warrants within student housing and interviewed several people of interest, a Coos Bay Police Department press release said. However, no arrests have yet been made. The attack occurred early Oct. 29 in a dorm room at the college’s Coos Bay campus.

Police officers said the victim, identified only as a woman, did not know her attacker or attackers. According to the press release, due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, police will not release the names of the victim or people of interest at this time.

After they issued the press release, no public information officers or supervisors from the Coos Bay Police Department were available to discuss the case. Linda Kridelbaugh, the college’s vice president of administrative services, said she could not reveal any details from the case upon advice from police.

“We don’t in any way want to impede on their investigation,” she said.

She refused to comment on how many people police interviewed and whether they are students, how many dorm rooms officers checked, if the victim is a student and whether any students have been expelled.

“That’s a confidential matter,” she said, “so I can’t talk about anything.”

No college policies have been changed as a result of the assault, although Kridelbaugh said she sent an e-mail last week to students explaining safety tips offered by the Coos Bay police.

Also, housing managers are talking with students one-on-one if they have any concerns.

“The housing staff is very good about talking to people if they need anything,” she added.

Oregon State Police, Coquille and North Bend police departments, as well as members of the Coos County Major Crime Team, are helping with the case.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the Coos Bay Police Department at 269-8911 or Coos Stop Crime at 267-6666.
