Rain drenches area

Friday, November 06, 2009 |
North Bend street department workers spent several hours Thursday night clearing plugged drains and standing water from several city streets.
Water was standing on a gravel road on California Street, as well as on Colorado and Johnson, said Bob Dillard, public works superintendent. There also were several potholes that developed at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Maple Street. Water appears to have gotten under the asphalt and popped it up, Dillard said. Workers are going to examine the damage and determine what repairs are needed. It may be possible to make a temporary fix and then come back when the weather is nicer, Dillard said.
The damage was caused by a combination of heavy rains and high tides, Dillard said.
