No services are planned for Lucille Claire Johnson, 88, of Grants Pass. Private inurnment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Lucille was born June 16, 1921, in Philomath, to Christopher and Gertrude Danielson. She died Oct. 28, 2009, in Grants Pass.
She was raised in the Bandon/Riverton area. On May 28, 1942, she married John “Jack” Smith in Washington. Jack died in 1982. On Sept. 17, 1983, she married Volney Johnson in Gold Beach. Volney died March 28, 2002.
In the 1950s, Lucille and her husband, Jack, owned a restaurant and she also worked as a millworker. She lived in Gold Beach from 1969 to 2008, moving to Grants Pass a year ago.
She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Gold Beach and was a master gardener. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, outdoor camping and hunting.
Lucille is survived by a daughter, Shirley Rhodes of Grants Pass; sons, Jim Smith and wife, Susie of The Dalles and Gerald Minor and wife, Anita of Tooele, Utah; sister, Jeanette Jones of Gold Beach; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Bethany Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1197, Gold Beach, OR 97444.
