The North Bend Volleyball Club is looking for volunteer coaches and assistants for its upcoming USA volleyball season.

The season lasts from the middle of November to the end of April.

The club hopes to have teams in the seventh-grade, eighth-grade and high school levels.

Anyone interested in helping out or wanting more information about the program can contact Les Willett at 404-7211.

Hockey fundraiser

The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club and the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon have partnered in a fundraiser for the club sports programs.

The club is selling tickets to a hockey game on Saturday, Nov. 7, between the Winterhawks and the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Rose Garden in Portland.

The ticket package includes a hot dog, soda, popcorn, exclusive souvenir hat and seat for $22. For each ticket sold, $4 will go to the club’s sports programs.

The Nov. 7 game also is a dash-for-cash night, and 40 contestants will have one minute to dash for 10,000 silver dollars on the ice.

Tickets for the game are available at the club office. For more information, call 267-6573.

NBA/WNBA Challenge

All boys and girls ages 8 to 14 as of Feb. 12, 2010, are eligible to participate in the first NBA/WNBA Fit Challenge, scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Boys & Girls Club.

The event will be held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 11, which is Veteran’s Day and a national holiday with no school.

The event is free for all participants and includes the following competition areas: line springs, jumping rope, speed revolution, wall pass and defensive shuffle.

Local winners are eligible for regional competitions.

Proof of age should be provided at time of registration. Call 267-6573 for more information.

Hoop Group

The new Hoop Group program of the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon has started.

The group meets on Mondays in Prosper Hall on the Southwestern Oregon Community College campus.

Each Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., the college will hold an open gym for all boys and girls in grades 1 through 12. The fee is $10 per week or $30 per month, and the program is supervised by Southwestern women’s coach Mike Herbert and his team.

Participants do not need to be members of the Boys & Girls Club.

The program runs through Nov. 30. Basketball players can sign up at the Boys & Girls Club or at the gym on Monday nights.

For more information, call Karen Bauder at 267-6573.
