Groups cooked up fun at the fair

Friday, October 30, 2009 |
The Coos County Fair theme, “Under the Big Top, A Community Celebration,” was accomplished by many, many volunteers. A big thank you to each.
Displays by Coquille Merchants were very popular. The Coquille Chess Club was amazing. Southwestern Oregon Community College had several departments promoting programs, but the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute topped them all with hundreds of fresh-baked cookies.
Thursday began with Bandon Day, with cranberry samples of juice, craisins and cookbooks. Many other Bandon wares were on display.
Friday was Coos Bay, Charleston and North Bend Day at the fair. Many displays and handouts were available, with city dignitaries Mayor Rick Wetherall and City Manager Jan Willis.
Saturday’s huge display was presented by Myrtle Point, Powers, and Dora/Sitkum areas. Powers had a wonderful gardening cabinet on display and tile stepping stones.
Again, a big thank you to each community and the participants. Comments are always welcome at 572-2002.
