Former band director scheduled for hearing

Sunday, October 25, 2009 |
The former director of Oregon Coast Lab Band and his wife are scheduled to appear in court Monday for a plea change hearing regarding accusations they stole from the organization they founded.
Greg and Patricia Young were arraigned Sept. 21 in Coos County Circuit Court, each on three counts of aggravated first-degree theft and four counts of first-degree theft.
The charges date back to January 2005 and constitute theft of more than $33,000, though Deputy District Attorney Oubonh White has declined to give a specific dollar amount.
White said she has put a plea offer on the table for the Youngs to consider, though she is unsure what will happen Monday. They could enter pleas or set a date for a trial, she said.
Greg Young resigned from the organization in August 2008, after Lab Band board members found discrepancies in financial records. Greg Young, who founded the organization in the 1990s, handled the Lab Band’s accounts, along with his wife.
