Raymond Douglas Harris

 A memorial service will be held for Raymond Douglas “Doug” Harris, 75, of Cottage Grove, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Smith Lund Mills Chapel in Cottage Grove.

Doug was born Jan. 17, 1934, in Myrtle Point. He died Oct. 16, 2009, in Cottage Grove.

Doug worked in road building and logging. He and his wife, Donna, operated their own road construction business for 23 years.

He enjoyed his family, snowmobiling, football, fishing, hunting, being in the woods, building roads and watching wildlife. He was a member of the Elks Club.

Doug is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Jean Harris of Cottage Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Brian Zumwalt of Myrtle Point; son, Kevin Harris of Cottage Grove; son, Kerry Harris of Cottage Grove; brothers, Ed Harris of Colorado, Fred Harris of California and Sam Harris of Colorado; five grandchildren, BJ Zumwalt, Caitlin and Charlie Smith and Danny, Riley and Andrew Harris; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, on Aug. 10, 2005; and brother, Billy Harris.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Donna Harris Memorial Scholarship for South Lane Schools, c/o South Lane School District Office, 455 Adams St., Cottage Grove, OR 97424; or the Coos County Logging Museum, P.O. Box 325, Myrtle Point, OR 97458.
