A public visitation will be held for Joseph L. Jackson, 71, of Coos Bay, from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, Oct. 30, at Coos Bay Chapel, 685 Anderson Ave. A graveside service with military honors provided by the American Legion Bay Area Post No. 34 will follow at 1 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 63060 Millington Frontage Road in Coos Bay. Joseph’s son, Berl Watters, of Free Circle Ministries, will lead the service.
Joseph was born on Sept. 24, 1938, in Lapwai, Idaho, to David Jackson and Irene (Lossing) Jackson. He died Oct. 17, 2009, in Coos Bay.
After graduating from high school, Joseph enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, Joseph worked as an engineer for the Nez Perce Indian Tribe. He was a charter member of the Seaside Eagles Lodge and a member of the Moose Lodge as well. He loved hunting, fishing, woodcarving and building boats.
Joseph is survived by his sisters, Mary Jack of Nevada and Marian Jackson of Lapwai, Idaho; by several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Coos County Humane Society, 600 S. Port Road, Coos Bay, OR 97420.
Arrangements are under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel, 267-3131.
