Siuslaw sent North Bend to last place in the Far West League, beating the Bulldogs 27-12 in Florence on Friday.

North Bend dropped to 0-3 in league play, while Siuslaw improved to 2-1.

With South Umpqua stunning Sutherlin Friday night, North Bend is the only winless team in the league standings.

The Bulldogs finish the season with home games against South Umpqua next week and Brookings-Harbor the following week, and actually still could get back into the playoff picture with two wins and help from other squads.

The Bulldogs opened up the scoring with a 1-yard run from Dalton Iveans, who had 29 yards rushing on 10 carries.

The Vikings took over from there, with quarterback John Johnson throwing a 60-yard touchdown pass to Eric Tipler, followed by a 1-yard run from Sonny Tupua. Johnson threw another touchdown pass, this time to Tim Raybould from 6 yards out.

North Bend found the end zone in the third quarter, with a 2-yard touchdown run from Jon Harris, but Tupua punched another one in for Siuslaw, this time for a 10-yard touchdown to secure the victory.

Tupua led the Vikings with 146 yards rushing on 32 carries, and Johnson threw 11-for-17 for 177 yards.

Cameron Seiger led the Bulldogs with 61 yards rushing on 13 carries, and he also caught two passes for 32 yards. Iveans was 4-for-13 passing for 63 yards and one interception, and gained 29 yards on the ground.

Trojans top Bruins

Douglas won a shootout with Brookings-Harbor 40-28 to take over sole possession of first place in the Far West League and stay perfect on the season.

Paul Polamalu passed for 243 yards and three scores for the Trojans and Sky Woods had a 51-yard scoring pass to David Froude to help Douglas build a 28-7 lead.

Dustin Paradis rushed for 144 yards on nine carries and scored three times for the Bruins and Tyler Lueckfeld added 99 yards on nine carries as the Bruins rolled up 299 rushing yards against the Trojans’ tough defense.

But Jered Stoffal had two touchdown runs and also scored on a reception to help the Trojans stay in front.

Lancers stop Sutherlin

South Umpqua topped visiting Sutherlin 20-7 Friday night, handing the Bulldogs their first league loss.

The Lancers scored first, with Danny Walton running in a 5-yard touchdown. Sutherlin responded with Brian Andry’s 2-yard score.

But Sutherlin didn’t score again and South Umpqua’s Josh Kennedy had a pair of touchdown passes to secure the Lancers’ first league win.

Sunset Conference

Bandon beats Reedsport

Bandon earned its first Sunset Conference win at Reedsport Friday night, topping the Braves 26-16.

Reedsport dropped to 0-5 in league play, and Bandon is 1-4.

The Braves scored on the first play from scrimmage in the game with a 70-yard touchdown run from Cory Cristoffersen. Bandon quarterback Connor Jackson took over for the rest of the half, scoring a 4-yard touchdown on the ground, and airing it out to Andy Santos for a 38-yard touchdown.

Jackson had another 38-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, this time connecting with Jimmy Mack. Reedsport scored on another long run, with Keelan McDuffy rambling 72 yards.

But Jackson scored another touchdown and Reedsport lost four fumbles, two of them when the Braves were in scoring position.

“We’re just finding ways to lose,” Reedsport coach Shane Nelson said. “It’s just the story of the year.”

Santos led the Tigers with 115 yards rushing on 14 carries, and Mack had 12 carries for 98 yards. Jackson passed 8-for-11 for 158 yards.

McDuffy had eight carries for 129 yards for the Braves, and Cristoffersen carried the ball 12 times for 126 yards. Jason Fegles passed 1-for-8 for 13 yards and one interception.

Wildcats whip Chieftains

Glide got a big win at Rogue River, dominating the Cheiftains 41-3 to improve to 3-2 and enhance its playoff chances. Glide’s losses came to league powers Gold Beach and Cascade Christian.

Rogue River also is 3-2, but still must play Gold Beach.

The Wildcats scored in every quarter, with Justin Baughman leading the team in rushing with 187 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown. Quarterback Landon Weimar was 9 of 17 for 98 yards, and ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more.

Turnovers were rampant, with Glide fumbling three times and giving up one interception. Rogue River fumbled four times with two interceptions.

Skyline League

Elkton tops Powers

Powers lost to Elkton 32-20 on the road Friday night, damaging the Cruisers’ playoff hopes.

The Elks went up 14-0 in the first quarter, with a 65-yard pass from Austin Buell to Brandon Bowen and a 45-yard pass caught by Mike MacKenzie from Brent Whipple.

Powers’ George Lewis ran for all three touchdowns, one for 35 yards and two for 20 yards. Lewis finished with 175 yards rushing on 23 carries.

Powers lost three fumbles in the game, and Elkton lost two. The Elks also threw two interceptions, and Powers threw one.

“Two things killed us, and that was turning the ball over and not taking advantage of our chances to score,” Powers coach Nick Gonzales said.

He also said that Elkton answered every time the Cruisers attempted to battle back into the game. Powers’ defense allowed 315 total yards on the ground.

“We have to get ready for Camas Valley next week to have a chance in forcing a three-way tie for third,” he said.

Powers, which fell to 3-3, will finish the season with two straight home games, next week against Camas Valley, and the following week against Gilchrist, which is 4-2 in league play.

VOLLEYBALL

Powers tips Elkton

Powers picked up a win in straight sets, topping second-place Elkton 25-19, 25-20, 25-23 on the road Friday night in Skyline League play.

The Cruisers improved to 7-4 in league matches, and the Elks picked up their second loss, dropping to 8-2 and clinching the league title for unbeaten Days Creek.

“They played pretty well with a lot of intensity the whole night,” Powers coach Beth Rector said.

Liz Linderman had five kills, four aces and four blocks, while Taylor Stallard led the team in kills with nine, and added two blocks. KC Carter and Ashlee Blanton added nine digs apiece.

For Elkton, Hannah Parker had six blocks, and Isabella Lopez had five digs.

“It’s just nice to get a win on the road and be alone in third place,” Rector said. “We’re looking forward to the district playoffs next Saturday.”

The Cruisers finish up the regular season at home on Tuesday against Camas Valley. The district tournament will be in Coquille.
