Lakeside residents will have a chance to recall their entire city council and mayor.

Coos County elections officials have scheduled a recall election for Tuesday, Nov. 17, after recall petitioners submitted enough signatures to put Mayor Orville Nelson and all six councilors on the ballot. The council members and mayor had the opportunity to resign once the signatures were verified, but all decided to go to the election process, said City Recorder and Administrator Charlie Hill.

On Aug. 13, Lakeside Senior Center President Kathleen Gould filed petitions to recall Councilors Mack Eubanks, Clark Anderson, Rod Schilling, Chrysta Swift and Elaine Armstrong. Then, on Aug. 17, community member Calvin Walker shot back, filing recall petitions against Nelson and Councilor Tim Crockett.

Both petitioners turned in the 128 signatures necessary to certify a recall Oct. 5, said Hill.

Coos County officials will mail ballots to registered voters in Lakeside on Oct. 30.

Steve, You said it yourself that you would SUPPORT the idea to tax the feds for lost timber revenue.., but yet you want the tax bill decreased.. How can you approve/disapprove of tax increases at the same time? If you lived in Bandon would you support a tax increase to add police officers for 24/7 coverage of Bandon?

Orecoast,

Why would you think I support new taxes? I want the tax bill decreased. What I want is less tax used efficiently to provide services without the fluff.

If you are going to spread rumors, at least stick to the truth.

Lakeside can't be dis-incorporated because they are in debt for the sewer plant, etc.

I love Lakeside - wish they could all play in the sandbox nicely.

Elaine Armstrong is the "ONLY" good city councilor they have, but you can vote the rest out... STEVE, I thought you SUPPORTED new taxes.... so why do you care where the money comes from.. Again, I thought you had a vast knowledge of what is going on in this county.....LOL You don't know any more than our elected officals...

Dear Observer, and the rest of you new-comers: LakesiDERS would prefer just that, as proven by the Dis-incorporations (2) prior to the 1970's. The late great Jim Brown told you many times: had the community NOT needed a sewer plant and the funding to construct one, the last vote for incorporation wouldn't have won at all, much less by 3-4 vote margin! The sewer plant bound the community as a 'city' ...as collateral for grant monies the community required for building the plant.
It's funny you're all fighting over that now.
But --doesn't that tell you something? With exception to Mr. Tim Crockett none of the other people involved with THIS recall effort are true Lakesiders. They are people who came here from ...other places because it is what it is here and they loved it! and then immediately work to change it into whatever controlled atmosphere they moved away from. We're used to that in Lakeside. And if the cost of one recall after another bankrupts the so-called 'city' we'd all be the merrier.

They're sending you the bill Steve...LOL!

Seriously though, the next Lakeside election should be one for disincorporating this dysfunctional city.

Lakeside has no money anyway.
