Agencies get 'green' grants

Public entities on the South Coast will get nearly $170,000 for energy efficiency and conservation projects.
Gov. Ted Kulongoski announced Tuesday the recipients of $7.25 million in pass-through grants from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“This federal investment provides an unprecedented opportunity to make significant improvements in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects for public buildings throughout the state, creating both jobs and energy savings for Oregonians,” Kulongoski said in a press release.
Locally, money will go to:
• Curry County North Annex HVAC, insulation — $20,500.
• Curry County South Annex HVAC, insulation — $32,000.
• Elkton Rural Fire Department weatherization — $24,300.
• Coos County Courthouse lighting — $14,448.
• Coos County Road Department to replace all lighting in building — $4,067.
• Coos County Parks/forestry building lighting retrofits — $5,095.
• Coos County health/ juvenile building new energy-efficient lighting — $699.
• Coos County jail new lighting — $16,696.
• North Bend Annex lighting retrofits — $14,591.
• Coos County Court-house boiler upgrade — $26,250.
• Coos Bay city maintenance shop lighting upgrades — $4,700.
