Port officials are trying to hammer out a new deal with Jordan Cove Energy Project before existing land sale agreements expire later this year.

The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay has scheduled a special meeting at 1:15 p.m. Thursday to consider a new agreement with the liquefied natural gas developer. But negotiations haven’t concluded, said Jeff Bishop, the port’s executive director.

“Things are still a bit tentative,” he said. “It’s not complicated, the agreement. There are many parties to the agreement and getting their issues resolved takes time.”

The existing agreement involves the port, Jordan Cove, Weyerhaeuser Co., the state of Oregon and Umpqua Bank. The port has until Dec. 1 to execute a contract with Weyerhaeuser to purchase 1,300 acres of property on the North Spit. It has a similar amount of time to sell about 150 acres of that land to Jordan Cove so the company can build an LNG terminal.

The port has received loans from the state and Umpqua Bank that would be paid back with revenues and taxes obtained from the LNG project.

Bishop said he will be out of town next week, so the meeting was scheduled even though a tentative agreement is still in the works.

“We are running out of time,” he said.

Port commissioners also will consider whether to take on an advocacy role for the Oregon Resources project, which could be a potential user of the Coos Bay Rail Link, Bishop said. He said the likely first step would involve learning more about the project.

The meeting is to take place following an executive session in the port’s conference room, 125 Central Ave. The special meeting will be held in the port commission chambers, suite 230.

In what world is it a good idea to get a loan for something that might never come to be?Then who would be left holding the debt?Doesnt the port already have enough debt because of the Ghost rail?

Time is indeed running out. What has it been, 3 years? It is time to update the appraisals used to pay Weyco better than 4 time the tax assessed value of sand dunes in the path of Tsunami. Docks up and down the West Coast sit idle in big cities like Oakland and Long Beach, why would anyone think gigantic container ships would call at Coos Bay 300 miles to the closest big city. Get a grip on reality. This is a scheme for economic development full employment.

I AM GLAD FERC IS HOLDING UP THIS SHOW. I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE ANYONE WOULD EVEN WANT THIS IN COOS BAY CONSIDERING THE TSUNAMI WARNING WE JUST GOT FROM THE GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY. FINANCIAL GREED FOR THE LNG SHAREHOLDERS ARE THE ONLY POTENTIAL WINNERS HERE, AND IT'S APPARENT THEY WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO GAIN THIS POWER, EVEN THE POTENTIAL LOSS OF NORTH BEND/COOS BAY LIVES IN THE EVENT OF AN FORETOLD DISASTER

What part of the following don't you understand Bob Braddock's people:

1) Increases our dependence with hostile countries like Russia, Iran, etc for our future energy needs.

2) UNSAFE situation of LNG ships having known 2 mile hazard burn zone & traveling within a 1/2 mile of populated area here (affecting 17,000 people).

3) Placed in Tsunami zone that violates 2002 state safety requirements.

4) LNG is 2X more expensive then natural gas used today by Oregon citizens.

5) How 400 Oregon property owners will be FORCED to sell their land to foreign investors.

6) Pollutes the air 24/7/365 days a year.

7) How LNG ship will have negative effect on fishing boats & NEW Airport flights.

8) How no local will qualify for any of the jobs at Jordan Cove.

This LNG SCAM is not worth the little tax money collected from vs HUGE risks involved! Every poll taken & even Oregon's Dept of Energy says NO to this SCAM!
