Local lakes: Last week, Bradley Lake near Bandon was stocked with 1,000 2-pound trophy-size rainbow trout. Plenty of anglers fished the lake last weekend, but we hadn’t received any updated reports as of Tuesday. Five 20-foot lengths of floating dock are being stored on the ground near the lake. Next year we should see some dredging at the boat launch, along with installation of a new floating fishing pier.

Reports coming from Empire Lakes in Coos Bay last weekend were great. Last week, each lake was stocked with 2,000 trout. One angler stopped by to tell me he saw anglers leaving the lakes with stringers of nice rainbows.

Local rivers: Salmon anglers fishing the lower Rogue River at Gold Beach are still reporting very good salmon fishing. There are plenty of coho and jack salmon being taken, along with hatchery king salmon returning to Indian Creek. Anglers fishing the Chetco River at Brookings are reporting catches of about 20 kings per day. Fishing for salmon is closed above the U.S. Highway 101 bridge until Nov. 11, when that area will reopen.

Most of the salmon being caught on the Coos River system are at the Forks and in the Daniels Creek area. The majority of salmon taken on the lower Coquille River have been coho. Last weekend, plenty of fish were taken by anglers trolling the bay near Old Town. Jim Saunders of Bandon caught a 38-pound king salmon up in Seven Mile Slough. As of this week, 45 percent of the river’s 1,500-coho quota had been taken. Forecasted rains this week should get more fish on the move. Look for some kings to start moving into the mouth of the Elk and Sixes rivers, as well.

Pacific Ocean: Last weekend, anglers fishing for rock cod reported great success. Five anglers from Roseburg reported catching their limits of rock cod, along with 10 lingcod. They also pulled 52 nice crab out in front of Bandon. Remember, the ocean is closed to sport crabbing beginning this Friday, Oct. 16.

Area shellfish: Crabbing from Weber’s Pier in Bandon has been slow. The crab have been staying out in the channel where boaters have been catching nice limits of Dungeness crab. Last Sunday, we must have cooked 200-300 crab caught outside the jetties off of Bandon and from inside the bay. The crab are in great shape with the majority 90 percent full of meat.
