Bear expelled from Medford elementary

MEDFORD (AP) — A bear that wandered onto a Medford elementary school’s playground was tranquilized and returned to the wild.
The 100-pound bear climbed a tree at Lone Pine Elementary Wednesday morning, and the school’s 533 students were kept inside until Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife employees removed the unwanted visitor. Department biologist Mark Vargas tranquilized the bear and it dropped from the tree near the school’s swing sets.
Wildlife agents tell the Medford Mail Tribune that the bear probably wandered into town from the hills east of Medford, looking for food.
