Bandon beat host Myrtle Point, 25-22, 25-11, 25-11 on Tuesday, moving into sole possession of second place in Sunset Conference volleyball standings.
Grace Garrett had 24 kills and 10 digs for the Tigers. Kelsey Hinojosa added 36 assists and Marissa Ramos had 24 digs. Karli Crook had 18 digs and nine kills.
“Bandon’s a good team,” said Myrtle Point coach Kami Hixson. “They have a good defense and they’re a good offensive team.”
On Tuesday, the Tigers had too much for a Myrtle Point squad that had two players back in the lineup after missing 11 days with illness and has lost four of its past five matches.
“I felt the chemistry was good, we’re just in a slump right now,” Hixson said.
Peyton Babb had five kills, two stuff blocks, eight digs and an ace for the Bobcats. Kaitlyn McCollum added five kills and three stuff blocks. Meghan Ross added four kills, five digs and two aces.
Chieftains beat Reedsport
Rogue River beat host Reedsport, 25-22, 25-15, 26-24, hampering the Braves’ playoff hopes.
Reedsport would have had a chance to move into a tie for fourth place with the Chieftains and Coquille. Instead, Rogue River has a two-game lead on the Braves.
Taylor Lewis had 20 assists for Reedsport. Eden Huebner added three aces, 11 kills and five blocks; and Brianna Smith had two aces, four kills and eight blocks.
Alli Ehrhardt had nine blocks, 11 kills and 15 digs for the Chieftains.
Wildcats tip Panthers
Glide edged host Gold Beach, 18-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 15-9 on Tuesday.
Jessica Strader had 15 kills, eight blocks and 10 assists for the Wildcats, while Allahna Hortwick added seven kills and 12 blocks. Jordan Husky had five kills.
Katherine Zuber had 13 kills and five blocks for Gold Beach. Frankie Lemmon added 10 kills and a block; Katie Moore had 16 assists, six digs and four kills; Lindsey McDonald had 11 digs; and Sydney Hadley had three kills, three aces and two assists.
Challengers pound Coquille
Cascade Christian dominated visiting Coquille on Tuesday, beating the Red Devils 25-9, 25-20, 25-10.
It was a much different result from the first meeting between the teams, when Coquille became the first squad to stretch Cascade Christian to five games in the Challengers’ three seasons in the Sunset Conference.
“The team that took Cascade to five was nowhere to be seen tonight,” Coquille coach Danielle McKinley said. “The girls are continuing their rollercoaster ride of great highs and devastating lows and tonight was another low.”
Courtney Davis had five kills for Coquille and Allison Cook and Taylor Gederos added four kills each. Nikki Hall had three stuff blocks.
Breanna Holtz had 23 assists, seven digs and five aces for Cascade Christian.
Midwestern League
Pirates sweep Springfield
Marshfield swept visiting Springfield, 25-17, 25-11, 25-20 on Monday to finish the first half of Midwestern League play in second place at 4-1.
“I thought tonight we finally put together a pretty consistent game from the start of Game 1 to the end of Game 3,” said Marshfield coach Tammie Montiel, who was particularly pleased the Pirates avoided a second-game lull that has become typical for the team. That was their best game Tuesday.
Kara Young had 12 kills and eight digs for the Pirates, while Amber Owen added 11 kills and setter Nikki Gross had 30 assists and four aces. Libero Katelyn Richmond had three aces and 12 digs.
Marshfield has won four straight league matches since losing the opener to Thurston, the Pirates’ opponent on Thursday.
“Tonight’s game gave them a little momentum into things,” Montiel said. “We’re ready to go up and hopefully compete with them better than we did when they came down here.”
Marshfield’s win and Willamette’s victory over Churchill on Tuesday leaves the Pirates with a two-game lead on Churchill, Springfield and Willamette in the league standings, all trailing unbeaten Thurston.
Far West League
Vikings top Lancers
Siuslaw swept visiting South Umpqua, avenging an earlier loss to the Lancers.
The Vikings won 25-20, 25-15, 25-20 to move ahead of South Umpqua in the league standings.
Seabre Church had 15 kills and Katie Catalfamo added six kills and four aces for the Vikings.
Shelby Bay had seven kills and 13 digs for the Lancers and Angel Lockwood had six kills and four digs.
The Vikings improved to 4-2 and are tied with Brookings-Harbor for second place. South Umpqua fell to 3-3.
Bruins beat Douglas
Brookings-Harbor kept pace with Siuslaw in the league standings by beating host Douglas, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20.
Nicole Watterson had 14 kills and 12 blocks for the Bruins, while Sarah Pate added nine kills and six blocks. Danielle Ambrose had 13 assists and seven kills.
Taylor Bond had six kills for Douglas and Jessica Case added five kills and 17 digs.
Skyline League
Powers tops Pacific
Powers beat visiting Pacific 25-21, 25-14, 25-14 on Tuesday to improve to 5-3 in Skyline League play.
“My girls came out and played aggressively and played well from the get-go,” said Powers coach Beth Rector. “It was good to see that kind of volleyball coming out of us. (We were) serving well, hitting the ball hard and getting after everything. It was fun to watch.”
Liz Linderman had eight kills, five aces and four blocks for the Cruisers. Leeanna Sears had seven kills and 10 digs and KC Carter had six aces and seven assists.
On Saturday, Powers finished second in the Canyonville Christian tournament. The Cruisers fell to Umpqua Valley Christian in the championship match after a player was hurt and the Cruisers had to play with just five girls.
