Help fill 'Empty Bowls' on Saturday

Wednesday, October 14, 2009 |
The South Coast Potters have created hundreds of bowls. Oregon Coast Community Action wants to fill them and feed hungry people, so the agency will host the Empty Bowls fundraising event on Oct. 17, in partnership with Southwestern Oregon Community College.
All proceeds from the 4 p.m. event at Oregon Coast Culinary Institute on the college campus will go to help feed hungry children and families through South Coast Food Share.
Tickets cost $20 and will include a soup buffet, bread and salad, prepared by OCCI Chef Shawn Hanlin, as well as a handcrafted ceramic bowl to take home. The event also will include a play performed by students involved with the GUILD after-school program.
Tickets are on sale at Books by the Bay, at 1875 Sherman Ave., in North Bend; Java Jones coffee house, 757 Newmark Ave., in Coos Bay; Katrina Kathleens gift store, 201 S. Broadway, in downtown Coos Bay; and Off the Record, at 2227 Newmark Ave., in North Bend.
