Frank Grove (Coach): Grove graduated in 1944 from Powers High School, where he was a member of the 1944 state champion basketball team, and served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. He competed in basketball and track and field for two years each at Lewis & Clark University and the Oregon College of Education. He taught at the Bridge School for five years before a two-year stint coaching basketball at Central Linn High School. He returned to the South Coast and coached varsity basketball and track at Myrtle Point for 14 years, during which his basketball teams reached the state tournament five times, placing third once and winning the consolation title on two other occasions.

Clayton Mast (Class of 1925): Mast was born in North Carolina, the son of immigrants, and the oldest son among 14 children. His family moved to Myrtle Point, where he received his education. One year, he scored enough points to win the state track meet by himself, though the year was not available. He won 11 individual titles and was part of two winning relays at the Coos County Meet, including at least two individual crowns all four years in high school. He helped Myrtle Point win county team titles in 1924 and 1925, when he won the 50-, 100-, and 440-yard dashes, the low hurdles and javelin. Earlier in his career, he won the 880 and mile. After high school he served in the U.S. Army. He died in 1981.

Sam Dement (Class of 1938): Dement was a football, basketball and track standout for the Bobcats. As a senior, he helped Myrtle Point’s football team finish 7-0-1 and earned all-county honors at left end. That year, he also was a key member of Myrtle Point’s basketball and track and field teams, which both won county championships. He scored 19 points in the county track meet competing in the high jump, broad jump and both hurdles races and running a leg on the winning relay team. Dement walked on to Oregon State University’s basketball team and earned a scholarship under legendary coach Slats Gill. He was on teams that placed sixth in the nation in both 1941 and 1942. Dement later became a state senator.

Mickey Kincheloe (Class of 1961): Kincheloe was a three-sport standout for the Bobcats. He earned all-state honors in football as a junior and senior, and was chosen for the East-West Shrine Game and named a high school All-American as a senior. In wrestling, he was state champion for heavyweights as a junior and senior after placing fourth as a sophomore. He also played on a baseball team that finished second in state his junior year. He went on to play football at Adams State College for four years, and was team captain his senior year. That year, he also won the Mountain Interscholastic Association’s heavyweight wrestling title. He was drafted by the New York Jets, and sent to the club’s farm team in Toronto, but was cut because of an injury. After teaching and coaching for three years, he returned to Myrtle Point and joined the family business.

Richard Armstrong (Class of 1962): Armstrong was born in Newberg and moved to Myrtle Point in 1957 when  his father, Hubert, became superintendent of schools in the district. His mom, Elizabeth, taught in the local elementary schools. Armstrong was a four-year varsity letterman in both football and basketball. He was chosen for the East-West Shrine Game in football as a senior and was named outstanding back. He also was chosen for the State-Metro Baseball Series that year. He went on to play baseball under  Don Kirsch at the University of Oregon, leading the Pac-8 Northern Division in hitting in 1965. He taught and coached in the North Bend school district for 30 years before moving to Salem, where his wife, Susi, is head volleyball coach at West Salem High School.

Brad Bosco (Class of 1969): Bosco lettered in basketball and track and field for four years and football for three years at Myrtle Point and was described as one of the best natural athletes to come from the South Coast. He was named all-state in football as a junior and senior and was a standout receiver, safety and punter. He earned a four-year scholarship to Oregon State University for football. His senior year, the Bobcats went 23-1 in basketball, the only loss coming in the state tournament. He also held the county javelin record for many years with his winning throw of 203 feet, 1 inch his senior year. He qualified for state in the javelin, discus, high hurdles and mile relay that year, placing fourth in the javelin.

James Hardy Mast (Class of 1972): Mast lettered in football all four years for the Bobcats, earning all-state honors as a junior and senior and being selected to the East-West Shrine Game his senior year. He opted not to play in the Shrine Game because he was chosen to participate in a Cultural Exchange wrestling trip to South Africa the same year after winning his second straight state title at heavyweight in that sport. He also participated in track and field his final three years in Myrtle Point, and earned a football scholarship to Oregon State University, though he returned to Myrtle Point after his freshman year to work on the family’s dairy farm. He coached the Myrtle Point Mat Club from 1981 to 1988 and helped coach the football team from 1990 to 1992. He was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in 1995 and died from the disease in 1996.

He was team captain as a senior, when he earned All Pac-8, All West Coast and All-American honors. He also was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1977-78. After his playing career, he coached at Oregon State for two seasons and has spent the past 22 years in education.

She was all-league as a junior and senior and the Far West League’s MVP and an honorable mention all-state choice in volleyball as a senior. In basketball, she earned all-league honors as a junior and senior, and was the league’s MVP as a junior and a first-team all-state selection as a senior. She holds the school’s all-time rebounding record. She shared the school record in the high jump at 5 feet, 3 inches. She went on to stand out in basketball at Umpqua Community College, as an NWAACC first-team pick her freshman year. She has coached in Myrtle Point at various levels for the past nine years.

Amy (Flora) Brown (Class of 1993): Flora was one of the most decorated distance runners in the state during her high school career for the Bobcats, but started running earlier in the Zephyrs program. She won national Junior Olympics titles in the 1,500 meters in 1990 and 1991. She also won five individual state titles in track and cross country and set state records in both the 800 meters (2:17) and 1,500 meters (4:39). She went on to run for the University of Washington and now teaches and coaches in the Bandon School District.

1962 Football Team: The team shared the state title with Phoenix, playing to a 13-13 tie in a snowstorm at Medford High School. Before advancing to the playoffs, the Bobcats beat South Umpqua (33-7), Siuslaw (50-0), Pacific (41-0), Gold Beach (33-0), Bandon (27-7) and Brookings-Harbor (33-6) and tied Cottage Grove (0-0). In the final regular-season game, the Bobcats beat an undefeated Coquille squad 6-0 with a spot in the state playoffs on the line. Myrtle Point beat Reedsport 19-6 and Seaside 39-7 to advance to the championship game. The state co-title came one year after Myrtle Point finished second in the state.
