Elks want seniors to apply for scholarships

The Coos Bay Elks Lodge is taking applications for the 2010 Elks National Foundation “Most Valuable Student” scholarships given to graduating high school seniors. The application deadline is Nov. 2.
Applications for the 2010 Elks National Foundation “Legacy” academic awards also are available to a child or grandchild of a current Elk member. The application deadline for this scholarship is Jan. 8, 2010.

The Elks National Foundation awards more than $3 million dollars annually to 500 high school seniors throughout the country. In addition to the national awards, the Coos Bay Elks Lodge also will award $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from North Bend High School and Marshfield High School.
The Elks National Foundation has recently doubled the funding level for their Legacy awards to students. Eligible high school seniors may receive up to $4,000 per year for four years. The Foundation offers 250 awards to students throughout the country.
