Myrtle Point will try to improve to 3-0 in the Sunset Conference football standings when the Bobcats host Rogue River on Thursday.

But before the game, the school will honor 10 of its past sports heroes.

Myrtle Point will hold its first Hall of Fame induction ceremony starting at 4:30 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria. Admission to the dessert and ceremony is $5.

The school will honor past coach Frank Grove and athletes Jim Mast, Mickey Kincheloe, Richard Armstrong, Sam Dement, Clayton Mast, Amy (Flora) Brown, Bernadette (Davis) Kirkpatrick, Brad Bosco and Jim Walker.

The school also will recognize the 1961 state football co-champions.The team beat Reedsport and Seaside before tying Phoenix 13-13 in the championship game, Myrtle Point’s only state title in football. The Bobcats lost to Central 20-13 in the championship game a year earlier.

Myrtle Point athletic director Tom Dill formed a committee that started working on the hall of fame process in January.

“I’m very excited, just to recognize all the heritage of the athletes that have gone through Myrtle Point and their accomplishments as athletes and coaches,” Dill said.

With a statewide inservice day on Friday, nearly all the league’s schools will be playing their games Thursday.

Gold Beach will try to improve to 3-0 when the Panthers host a Coquille team needing a win after opening league play with losses to Glide and top-ranked Cascade Christian.

Reedsport hosts Glide as the Braves also try to bounce back from consecutive losses.

On Saturday, Bandon faces Cascade Christian at Crater High School.
