FOOTBALL

Cruisers get big win

George Lewis had four scores as Powers beat North Lake 56-20 on Friday to even its Skyline League record at 1-1.

Lewis had scoring runs of 35 and 40 yards and caught TD passes of 45 and 60 yards from Justin Flatt.

Flatt also had two touchdowns for the Cruisers, while Tim Davis and Cameron Perreault also scored.

“It was a real good win for our boys,” said Powers coach Nick Gonzales. “We had to do a lot of filling in places with people being sick. We didn’t miss a step.

“We put some new kids in on the offensive line. Gabe Sotela and Austin Morgan did a good job filling in there.”

Powers hosts Prospect in its homecoming game Friday.

Panthers win

Gold Beach got a pair of touchdown runs from Travis Wood and beat host Glide 28-14 on Friday.

Travis Smith also scored on a touchdown run for the Panthers and Todd Martin caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Josh Busko.

Glide’s Drew Vickery returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but the Wildcats couldn’t get into the end zone with their offense until the fourth quarter.

Gold Beach hosts Coquille and Glide visits Reedsport on Thursday.

Correction

The football recap in Saturday’s edition of The World gave credit to the wrong player for Coquille’s first touchdown against Cascade Christian. It was scored by Nathan Huffman.
