NB library offers signing course

Monday, October 05, 2009 |
Research shows babies and toddlers who are taught basic American Sign Language in addition to spoken language, talk sooner, have larger vocabularies and show more interest in books, among other skills.
To help parents and their children along that line, the North Bend Public Library, 1800 Sherman Ave., is hosting a free one-hour workshop at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, instructing parents and care-givers.
Children’s Librarian Sara Simpkins will teach adults how to get started signing and introduce the wide variety of resources available at the library. Parents are asked to leave their babies and toddlers at home, so that everyone in attendance can give full attention.
For more information, call 756-0400 during library hours: from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
