Reform saboteurs may rue their actions

Since March, $133 million has been spent by the health insurance industry, and the pharmaceutical corporations have spent $162 million in lobbying to defeat health care reform legislation.

The public relations firm that created the phony Swift Boat ads that helped to derail the election of John Kerry is again working for the Republicans and their cohorts — big business.

The Republicans are confusing the issue, using phases like “government take over” and “death panels for the elderly.” Trying to frighten people is reminiscent of the false propaganda used in the run up to the Iraq War.

Big business channels millions of dollars down to their Republican party surrogates who share their agenda with far-right wing organizations, talk radio and TV hosts who rally those angry malcontents.

They have different axes to grind, but this becomes part of a concerted, well-organized consortium of many far-right-wing facets, working in conjunction with each other to make sure Obama and the Democrats fail.

Some of those contentious individuals are not protesting democratic health care reform per se, but are venting their frustrations on social issues, like electing a half white, half black president, getting an Hispanic on the Supreme Court, prayer in schools, the abortion issue, gun rights and immigration.

Those Republican congressmen who holler “no socialized medicine” are hypocrites, since members of Congress have practically free health insurance, with more than 10 options to choose from, plus the use of government hospitals like Walter Reed — all subsidized by American taxpayers.

There are different components to the health reform plan, but only one part concerns a public option, which is not mandatory, a choice for those who are priced out of the market.

One can only feel sorry for those people who are trying to sabotage health care reform, because their family may become part of those denied coverage or lose coverage for a pre-existing condition, can’t pay a spiraling sky-high premium, forced into medical bankruptcy because of a catastrophic illness, their carrier won’t pay for treatments, their employer drops their unaffordable coverage, etc.

The health reform plan will set strict new regulations on the insurance industry. This will help both the insured and uninsured, but without any Republican support for health reform, the Democrats have to go it alone. The American people deserve better.

How does Obama Plan To Pay For It ALL?
Tax and hurt seniors by taking $500 Billion from Medicare.

Tax and hurt the uninsured by forcing them to spend 20% of their pay and buy Government Run Healthcare

Tax and hurt those with private insurance by forcing them to taxes on their employer health care plan.

Republicans have come up with plans, look to Massachusetts who is going bankrupt from "State run Health Care"
Any fair-minded review of what happened in Massachusetts would show that Gov. Romney succeeded in expanding access but they failed at containing costs.

If real republicans want to keep the government out of things like health care they need to do something to demonstrate they are really serious. Maybe advocate shutting down the existing socialist health care programs like VA Hospitals and Medicare! We need legislation to allow these people to opt out of the VA program, Medicare and Social Security, it would then be easy to count them and we would see who is serious and who is just full of it.
Get those “Shut down the Socialist VA and Medicare” banners made and show up at those tea bagger meetings. I’ll bet I’ll never see a sea of “close VA socialist hospital” banners on the nightly news, especially not the Fox no news channel.
Right wingers, prove me wrong or prove to the rest of us that your full of it!

Mr. Hopkins,

I am so glad that you came along to point out to me that my opinions are being controlled by a pharamaceutical/Republican conspiracy, and that I could not possibly have thought for myself without the Democrat/Government's help.

In fact, the reason I am against government intrusion is because of the pharmaceutical and Republican intrusion already present in my mind!

Thank you for pointing this out!

Of course, Democrat politicians NEVER serve special interests, nor would a Democrat politican EVER listen to a lobbyist.

Thank you, O Brave leader, for pointing ou the error of my ways!

Dear Readers, this is a FACT:

There was no ID verification in ANY legislation, never has been, never will be.

Oh Brave New World.
People will never agree. There are too many who do not care enough to listen or vote. And the ones in power don't listen to anyone but themselves. What a mess.

Obama (Lie) FALSE CLAIM: “If you come to me with a serious set of proposals, I will be there to listen. My door is always open.”

FACT: The Hill reported, that the President has not met with House Republicans since April, and when Republican Leaders asked for a meeting to discuss health care in a May 14 letter, the President ignored the request. The Politico reported on the President’s response on June 5, saying, “he makes no mention of the request to meet in the letter, which he signs off by stating, “Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with me and I look forward to further discussions on this critically important issue.” But those “further discussions” simply didn’t happen. The facts are clear: Blame for the lack of bipartisanship in the current health care debate lies squarely at the feet of Washington Democrats.

Obama (Lie) FALSE CLAIM: “…Nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have. Let me repeat this: nothing in our plan requires you to change what you have.”

FACT: This marked an important change in the President’s language last night. He used to say, “If you like your health-care plan, you keep your health-care plan.” By now using the word “require,” the President’s admitting that they can’t guarantee Americans will keep their health plan. After both the Associated Press, ABC News and others have thoroughly debunked this claim, it’s not surprising the White House has made this shift. But the point is that no one knows for sure how many employers will drop their coverage altogether if their plan goes into effect. Experts at the Lewin Group estimate the number could be more than 100 million Americans. And $500 billion in Medicare cuts will obviously reduce the quality of care America’s seniors receive.

Obama (Lie) FALSE CLAIM: “Now, there are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms I am proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.”

FACT: The non-partisan Congressional Research Service confirms in a report that there is no mechanism included in the bill to verify that individuals are U.S. citizens or legal immigrants before they receive government benefits. Furthermore, Republicans offered two amendments in the Ways and Means, and Energy and Commerce Committees that were rejected by Democrats. The first would have prevented illegal immigrants from being automatically enrolled into Medicaid and the second would have required better screening for applicants for federally-subsidized health care to ensure they are actually citizens or legal immigrants.

The American people are too often offered two extremes--government-run health care with higher taxes or letting the ithe American people are too often offered two extremes--government-run health care with higher taxes or letting the insurance companies operate without rules.nsurance companies operate without rules. Those are not the right ways and these are:
1.Take action to allow states to experiment with better ways of reaching the nation's health coverage goals rather than imposing a national plan on states and families.
2.Reform the tax treatment of health insurance to make it more equitable and efficient for taxpaying families.
3.Refocus employment-based coverage to promote family control and choice rather than mandating employers to offer government-defined coverage.
4.Use incentives and perhaps automatic enrollment in private plans, not government mandates, to foster wider coverage.
5.Create a level playing field of competing private plans and real choice, and do not allow a "public plan" to undermine your other commitments to Americans.
6.Be bipartisan-this is the main reason that America is in the economic shape it is; one side wants to be the winner!
