Brookings-Harbor had a pair of second-half goals to beat host North Bend 2-0 in a Far West League girls soccer match Tuesday.
“We played pretty well,” said North Bend coach Dustin Hood. “It was a pretty darn close game for 70 minutes.”
Crystal Pitts scored for the Bruins in the 69th minute and Laura Garcia added a goal four minutes later.
“The second half, we played really well,” Hood said. “We came out with a little more fire. We had a couple scoring chances.
“Brookings is a solid team. They pass the ball well and they are aggressive and win balls in the air. They wanted it a little more than we did.”
The Bruins improved to 4-0-0, while North Bend fell to 1-2-1 heading into a home match against Coquille on Thursday. That match will be part of a doubleheader, with the boys playing at 5 p.m. and the girls at 7 p.m. The boys match was moved from Coquille so it could be played on a better field. It had been scheduled for Coquille’s lower field, which has not been used for any matches this fall.

Lancers beat Pirates
Marshfield fell 6-1 to defending state champion Churchill in Eugene on Tuesday.
Ian Boozer had a hat trick and an assist for Churchill. The Lancers led 1-0 at halftime and broke the game open in the second half.
“The lack of a productive attack in the first half and the second allowed Churchill to continually attack the Marshfield defense, eventually leading to breakdowns in the otherwise solid defense led by senior and team captain Forrest Rambo and sophomore Kelley Kennedy,” said Marshfield coach Karl Kennedy.
The Pirates got their goal in the final six minutes, when Nich Henriquez made a run deep into Churchill’s penalty box and drew a pushing foul from a defender. Gage Pallo, Marshfield’s starting goalkeeper, converted the penalty kick.
The Pirates are off until facing Willamette in Eugene on Monday.
