PORTLAND (AP) — Oregon State University research efforts attracted more than $252 million in outside funding in 2008-09.
OSU President Ed Ray said the record amount is $21 million more than the previous year. He described the success of the school’s faculty and student researchers as “breathtaking and inspiring.”
The quarter-billion went to research projects in areas such as wave energy, nuclear engineering, health research and drug development. OSU’s innovations brought in a record $2.7 million in licensing agreements and resulted in four startup companies.
The Oregonian newspaper reports that Oregon Health & Science University brought in $307 million in outside research funding in 2008-09, and the University of Oregon got just over $100 million.
