Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition is joining with 1000 Friends of Oregon to sponsor two Oct. 10 workshops, designed to help Curry County residents understand mapping and resort planning processes and to become involved.
Free workshops are planned at two locations.
•
Gold Beach: 10 a.m.-noon, at the Curry County Annex, 94235 Moore St.
•
Brookings: 3-5 p.m., Chetco Activity Center, Room A, 550 Chetco Lane.
A major resort proposal is on the drawing board that will heavily affect both the shoreline south of Pistol River and the lower Pistol River watershed, an Ocean Shores press release said. In preparation, Curry County has begun a planning process to map sites in the county where destination resorts may be approved. The county must create an ordinance to govern permitting for resorts, including a map showing where they can be allowed, before it can consider the resort proposal.
The workshop’s two main speakers will be Dave Pratt, director of the Curry County Public Services Department, and Carol Macbeth, Eastern Oregon advocate for 1000 Friends. Pratt will describe the Curry County process and maps. Macbeth will give an overview of the resort planning process, why it is important, and how to get involved. Oregon Shores’ land use director, Cameron La Follette, will give a brief overview of resorts on the coast (Bandon Dunes Golf Resort and Salishan).
