The men’s soccer team at Southwestern Oregon Community College played to a 3-3 draw with host Pierce on Saturday.

The Lakers took a 3-2 lead on a goal by Drue Harris in the 85th minute, but Pierce’s Casey Woodruff answered with a goal moments later.

Alex Clark earlier scored a pair of goals for the Lakers, one assisted by Robin Davis.

Southwestern coach Ray Fabien was disappointed the Lakers didn’t get the win, but said the team is improving.

“We were leading in the last couple minutes and gave up a goal, which should not happen,” he said. “But the kids played well. They’re starting to communicate better and really support each other.”

The Lakers, who had lost their first two matches, scored their first point of the year. Pierce entered the match unbeaten in NWAACC South Region play, and now is 2-0-1.

“We’ll take the point and get ready for Edmonds at home this weekend,” Fabien said.

The Lakers host Edmonds on Saturday as part of a doubleheader with Southwestern’s women’s team. The women, who are 0-2-0, play at noon and the men at 2 p.m.

Volleyball wins three

Southwestern’s volleyball team had three wins and three losses in the Walla Walla crossover tournament over the weekend.

On Friday, the Lakers beat Olympic and Lower Columbia and lost to Tacoma and Walla Walla.

On Saturday, the Lakers edged Walla Walla in three games, but lost a three-game match to Blue Mountain.

Rose Mattson and Katie Jolliffe were named to the all-tournament team.

The Lakers open South Region play this weekend with matches at Clackamas on Friday and Mount Hood on Saturday.
