The Southwestern Oregon Community College volleyball team suffered a pair of losses at Walla Walla, Wash., on Thursday.
The Lakers fell to Walla Walla 25-12, 25-7, 25-18 and lost to Blue Mountain 25-22, 25-18, 25-21.
Laker coach John Speasl said the team struggled some because setter Alex Wagner is out with a sprained ankle, which has forced a lineup switch.
“The girls played well,” he said. “It’s just that when you change half your setting scheme it goofs you up.”
Against Blue Mountain, Maria Ciccarelli had seven kills, Kelly Millager and Erin Fullerton added five each and Rose Mattson had four. Hilary Hendricks had 15 assists.
The Lakers are in a tournament at Walla Walla today and Saturday, and could experience similar struggles, Speasl said.
“It’s good for us to play these guys,” he said. “They’re good teams.”
The Lakers also voted recently on team captains, and two of the three are from the South Coast — Taylor Scott from Marshfield and Ciccarelli from Myrtle Point. The other is Mattson.
“That’s kind of a nice thing for those kids,” Speasl said.
