In the second half, the Bulldogs got a goal by Medford on an assist by Brooke Davison in the 46th minute.
Hood was thrilled with his defense.
“Dana Crosby did an excellent job shutting down Danni Buechley, last year’s player of the year,” Hood said.
The teams play in Class 4A-3A-2A-1A District 3, which includes Far West League teams North Bend, South Umpqua, Sutherlin and Brookings-Harbor, along with smaller schools Coquille (a joint team with Myrtle Point), Glide and UVC.

Coquille tops Pacific
Coquille beat host Pacific 8-2 in the Far West League opener for both teams Tuesday.
Ryan Dannels had five goals for the Red Devils in the win, and also assisted on the first goal.

Waddington scored off an assist by Dannels and then had another assist of his own, setting up the final goal by Dillon Carter.
Both Pacific scores were by Brayan Gonzalez, who converted a penalty kick in the 55th minute and also scored in the 70th.
“Coquille looks pretty good,” said Pacific coach Tom Swenson. “They’ve got a well-balanced team.”
Pacific, meanwhile, is working to improve, Swenson said.
“Our game was improved a lot from where we started at the jamboree,” he said, referring to a preseason date at Phoenix. The Pirates lost their first match 6-0 on Friday, when Phoenix visited Pacific.
Bruins beat Trojans
Brookings-Harbor beat visiting Douglas 6-0 in a Far West League match Tuesday.
Anthony Babb had four goals for the Bruins, while Thomas Spratt and Dylan Roberts had the other goals. Brookings-Harbor led 2-0 at halftime.
“It basically was a good effort by the kids,” said Brookings-Harbor coach Poncho Garcia.
Class 3A-2A-1A District 3
Creswell beats Panthers
Creswell beat Gold Beach 10-1 in the Panthers’ season opener.
The Bulldogs led 4-0 at halftime and added to their lead in the second half.
Gold Beach got its goal early in the second half. Brodey Carpenter tipped in a crossing pass from Miles Bernadett-Peters.
That briefly cut the lead to 4-1 before Creswell pulled away.
“They had some really good passers,” Gold Beach coach Steve Martin said. “Their passing skills were phenomenal.
“We have to work on our defense. The kids are learning.”
Martin used the second half to get all his players into the match. The Panthers have 16 players this year, including five girls. The squad also has four freshmen.
Nonleague
Grants Pass tops Marshfield
Chris Krause had a hat trick for Grants Pass, while Taylor Griggs added two goals as the Panthers beat visiting Marshfield 6-0 in a nonleague match.
All six goals came after the 30th minute, and the Cavemen led 2-0 at halftime.
“We were unable to gain momentum in the second half, playing a team that was bigger and faster, as well as the numerous mistakes we made in the defensive end,”said Marshfield coach Karl Kennedy.
Marshfield did not have any shots on goal during the match.
The Pirates open league play at home Saturday against Thurston.
