The Coos Bay Schools Community Foundation has awarded 22 grants worth nearly $12,000 to programs providing students with expanded opportunities and unique educational experiences in Coos Bay Public Schools.
“This doubles our efforts from last year, so we are definitely headed in the right direction,” said Foundation President Nancy Tedder.
In all, there were 33 applications for grants.
•
Harding Learning Center: $1,000 for Salmon Recovery and Habitat Restoration;
•
Marshfield High School: $3,275 basketball, wrestling, track, cross country programs and Poetry Slam events;
•
Bunker Hill Elementary: $490 for Kinder Ceramic Art Project and Kinder Alphabet Produce Project;
•
Sunset Middle School: $650 for special education book collection and “Around the World” media materials;
•
Millicoma Intermediate: $2,030 for solo ensemble contests, ELL Heritage Project, fith-sixthgrade “Loose in the Lab” kits;
•
Blossom Gulch Elementary: $1,463 for expansion of Literacy Circle books, expansion of nonfiction section in Library and Laps program;
•
Madison Elementary: $1,511 for book binding equipment, integration of reading and geography materials, Birdhouse Construction project, and ELL Word Wall and International event;
•
Mingus Park Swim Pool: $756 for swimming lesson equipment.
The foundation is in its third year.
The foundation was formed during 2007 to promote programs for the arts, academics, activities and athletics for the benefit of the students of the Coos Bay School District by raising funds through community partnerships.
“We are grateful for those in our community, as well as our dedicated alumni, who continue to believe in our efforts and have given so generously to our Foundation,” Tedder said. “Without their support we would not be able to do this.”
