One of 10 finalists on “America’s Got Talent” has family in North Bend.
Breakdancer Hairo Torres of Grants Pass will perform tonight on the NBC series in the final round of competition. Viewers voting will determine the winner of the $1 million prize and headlining act in Las Vegas, which will be announced Wednesday on the show’s fourth season finale.
Torres, 23, is the son of Sofia Wickham of North Bend. His stepfather, Perry Wickham, and brother, fifth-grader Nathan Mersino, also live here. They moved from Grants Pass in January.
Also among the finalists are six singers, a band, a dancing group and a comedian.
Torres has impressed judges David Hasselhoff, Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan with his entertaining style and contortionist moves.
“You dance differently than anybody on this planet,” Hasselhoff told Torres after his semifinal performance.
While Torres’ mother is with him in Los Angeles, the rest of the family will be cheering him on from home.
“His passion is dancing,” Perry Wickham said. “He’s from Oregon and looking for people to give him a vote."
