I have to admit that I did receive a ticket from a police officer in Reedsport some time back. I wasn't much over the speed limit, but I was breaking the law by going over it. I paid my ticket and now I slow down in Reedsport. It would be nice if some of the other coastal towns would start doing the same. A lot of people fly down the roads through Coos Bay and North Bend every day...

I was pulled over a while back because I switched lanes without giving the guy behind me enough room, I deserved it and I'm glad for the reminder. However in the last week a have almost been hit twice by motor coaches in Reedsport. One ran a red light and almost wiped me out, fortunately I was able to lock up my brakes in order to let him by. Last week on Friday, a man driving an RV next to me decided that he needed to be in my lane, and just wandered over without even looking in his mirror or over his shoulder. I know this because I was watching his mirror and all I could see was the lapdog's head.
I am glad that the police are so commited to our safety. However I think that low grade speeders are far less dangerous than the apartment building sized R.V.'S that straddle the middle lane on turns, and obliterate lines of sight in intersections.

Two MPH over the limit is just plain stupid. 20 MPH over the limit is justified. However the cops wish to enforce the law will dictate how the public responds to law enforcement and government. So far we have gotten a lot of ticked off people and plenty of bad cop-no donut stories, so keep on with what you cops and city councils are doing until this area is a series of ghost towns.

I dont see the problem here. You speed = you get a ticket. You dont speed = you dont get a ticket. Why is it that people feel they are special and can stretch the limits for themselves? If it says 25 MPH, then you dont get to do 30 MPH. If you do and you get caught, you get a ticket. So Simple yet ppl are So Stupid.

I, too, have over twenty years of similar experience and the whole issue is so simple as to not worry about the status quo. It works!
Static, why don't you aske the question of the Chief instead of "wondering?"
Essex is a nice guy and will give you a heads up answer.

They can't write you a speeding ticket unless you're speeding.
See where I'm going with this?

Make sure you slow down there because they don't deserve any money from the extortion they're trying to pull.
I wonder if they're happy with their reputation as the most UNFRIENDLY town on the Oregon coast? Congratulations to them. Hope it bankrupts them.

I counted multiple officers on last Friday evening. It only takes a few minutes to drive the complete length of Reedsport. In that time, I counted so many patrol cars either cruising or sitting idle chatting to each other. Why does a town of approximately 4100 people need so many cops on at one time?
Why aren't taxpayers concerned about this?

If things were all about "safety," you'd see more state troopers on Highway 38 than local cops writing tickets in Reedsport.
kikilongbean wrote on Sep 14, 2009 3:17 PM:
It's good that they are watching their city. And yes, they are a speed trap, so slow down!

Interestingly, the one time I had to involve Reedsport police in my business (being harassed on the highway by some driver and the crowd in his car, on my way home from college), they were very quick to respond.

Take your foot OFF the accelerator and place it ON the brake pedal. The speed limits are posted. Read them and obey them.
The rest of the conspiracy you hint at I can't help with, but, let me know how it turns out for ya!
