Cheers for the start of repairs on the Coos Bay Rail Link last week. A spring 2010 reopening isn't out of the question. Restoring rail services will be a crucial step in rebuilding the South Coast economy.

Studying for success

Cheers for the students flooding Southwestern Oregon Community College. In good times or bad, investing in education is the surest way for individuals to create their own upward mobility.

Using their indoor voices

Cheers to the Lakeside City Council, which got through a whole meeting without any yelling. That's excellent progress since last month, and it puts Lakeside slightly ahead of the U.S. Congress this week.

It's hard to be a grownup

Jeers to the parents who pulled their kids from classes, so they wouldn't hear President Obama's speech to schoolchildren. Grade school classrooms aren't the place for adults to stage political protest.

We can ALL get along

Cheers to the entities and agencies and Jordan Cove Energy Project that figured out a compromise over concerns of letting Kentuck Golf Course turn to marsh. It wasn't about opposing LNG, but being good neighbors should the land use be deemed legal.

A good paddling

Cheers and congratulations to the Coquille Indian Tribe, sponsoring today's Salmon Celebration and canoe races at The Mill Casino-Hotel. The tribe and its business ventures are vital contributors to our community's economy and cultural life.

Airborne achievement

Separate news stories this week said air service routes to Portland from Klamath Falls, Astoria and Newport continue to require monthly subsidies. Those stories highlight the North Bend airport's achievement in kicking the subsidy habit. Cheers.

What the dinosaurs in this area hate to realize is that the connection south is the real portal to world. Had they realized that before they introduced the southern flights they never would have done it. This is the free market speaking loud and clear. Personally I am glad they had no clue. Has anyone noticed all the tourism this summer?

Hmmmmmmm...Didn't the NB Airport just reduce flights to Portland, because they can't even make the monthly subsidie to Skywest because they are in so much debt.....some how I just don't see that situation as much of a cheer unless you own Eugene Airport, because people of this area will be visiting that Airport more instead of this one...Go figure

In a world...torn apart by confusion...torn apart by souls searching for their own significance...torn apart by people tearing lots of things apart...

There was one man...who stood alone... a beacon of light in the middle of all that tearing upness..

Who is that man?

He is I...and I am...

EVERYMAN!

The "World" is a scary place. Right here, in little old Coos Bay, we have people who are so blinded by quick hatred they have become small minded and no longer are thinking for themselves: It's called Mob rule.

To all the right wing screamers who demonstrate, please review all the facts first before jumping to conclusions which don't exist.

This makes about as much sense as a 1 cent gas tax by Mayor/CB & what of the following didsn't your understand:

1) Corp quit the rail line due to losing money, because of NO business & used the safety issue to get out legally,

2) Jordon Cove/Lng is NOT needed in the USA or Oregon due to more then enough natural gas supply presently in the USA! Domestic USA Lng costs less then 1/2 of what imported Lng will cost, where the USA will be more depended on foreign hostile countries like Russia, Algeria, Iran for their future energy needs!

3) North Bend Airport district members wasted alot of tax payers money by creating a NEW Airport right after remodelling the old Airport, along with wasting tax payers money every month with Skywest & the 230K parking fee machines, along with the other unneeded expenses using a black hole tax payer blank check!

It is funny how you Jeers parents for their decision to pull kids out of school for a speech from a President and state that the classroom isn't the place for a politcal protest. The class room is not the place for POLITICAL anything. This does not need to be crammed down our childrens throats. They are there to learn. There is plenty of time in their lives to get involved in the ugliness of polictics.I for one would not allow my child to be involved in what I call "brainwashing". I just wish our President would stop thinking he was a movie star and finish one thing he has started. Someone please tell him he won, he can stop campaigning.
