North Bend’s volleyball team showed a big step up from its season opener two days earlier, dominating host Junction City 25-18, 25-10, 25-8 on Thursday.
“We played really solid,” said North Bend coach Les Willett. “It was a much better effort than the other night. We didn’t make a lot of mistakes. It was nice to have a better game.”
The Bulldogs didn’t have many offensive statistics because Junction City made a lot of mistakes, Willett said, adding that his team forced some of the miscues.
“A lot of times, they were chasing the ball,” he said.
Willett also limited his players to two games each, giving everyone a chance to see extensive playing time.
Mallory Rose led the Bulldogs with five kills and Camille Deming had five aces. Haley Dunham, Justine Head, Alexandra Mateski and Ashley Horlacher had six digs each. Setter Katie Banta had nine assists and her sister, freshman Kristen Banta, had three stuff blocks.
North Bend plays at the Roseburg Invitational on Saturday.
