Health debate obscures truth

Getting there early to assure myself a seat at the Obamacare town hall meeting in North Bend on Aug. 14, allowed me to be close to the action.

I have much respect for Congressman Peter DeFazio, who has done many good things for his district and the state of Oregon. He had read the bill and withstood the challenges from the audience with intellect, courage and conviction. Still the boat was missed.

All this political pandering from Obama and his czars and minions is not about health care. It is obviously about absolute political power and the ultimate control of our lives as Americans.

In the early 1900s in the USSR, Valdimir Lenin said the first step toward national Socialism was to socialize health care. He succeeded with that approach and Communism branded its ugly name on northern Asia. His concept failed under revolution and has never been proven to be successful no matter the hierarchy in the history of the world.

Some questions I did not get the chance to ask Peter DeFazio are the same questions the Obama Administration refuses to answer.

1. Who gets to pay for the stimulus package, which stimulated what could be easily be described as nothing?

2. Who gets to pay for the bailout of Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac, which was corrupt from the very beginning?

3. Who gets to pay for the scientifically debatable concept that is global warming and the ramifications of cap-and-trade?

4. Who gets to pay for the bailout of Lehman Brothers, AIG, Citibank and others we don’t even know about?

5. Who gets to pay for the management of General Motors and Chrysler Corp. by the federal government?

6. Who gets to pay for the sham that is socialized health care while Medicare and Social Security are near to bankruptcy?

7. Who gets to pay for the ever expanding cost of federal government programs which have repeatedly demonstrated their propensity to be ineffective and less than financially successful as demonstrated by the U.S. Post Office, Amtrak and the Veterans Administration?

8. Who gets to pay for the further invasion of our liberty?

The answer to all of these questions is you, the American taxpayer and your children and their children.  Please do not be deceived by Obama’s never-ending campaign rhetoric. He is a serial liar. Your freedom and your future are at stake.

Wake up, America.

Richard! No $#!^. We always pay. You’re not saying anything any one didn't know. I think the question is it worth paying for? Are the people of this country worth the investment or not? Do your neighbors deserve to have health care and a job? I was wondering how American it is telling your fellow Americans you don’t think they deserve it?

Jethro wrote on Sep 1, 2009 11:25 PM:

Mr. Soros,

Perhaps my view is "warped" as you say because I do not believe a darned thing politicians tell us. I prefer to get information from several different independent sources. Then I weigh the facts and make up my own mind. Yeah, it's much harder than Fox News telling me what to think, but I prefer to be informed.

By the way, the GOP is now calling for the US to "cut and run", but only because it is politically advantageous for them to now do so. They will probably begin a campaign to convince Americans, through Fox News, of course, that the war is Obama's fault.

Obama is just as much a liar as Bush was, but he is trying to establish a system to help Americans. Why should an Iraqi get US-funded health care while Americans have to suffer?

Jethro,

The government has always lied, regardless of which party was in the big house. Both parties have raided different funds that they promised to different groups. Both parties are responsible for the economic debacle that we are in right now.

Everyone needs to get this through their heads. Democrats and Republicans are the same. The only difference is the special interests that they serve (not their constituents). If you really want change in this country, vote for someone without a D or an R in front of their name.

Does history repeat it self or what?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled,
Public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be
Tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should
Be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to
Work, instead of living on public assistance."

You have a warped view of the war on terror. All of our countries leaders were told that there were WMDs and voted to start the war.
What a bunch of bafoons. Bush did not lie, yet thousands have died. If it were not such a quagmire we could just retreat (kinda like VietNam?) But we won't and Obama will not. Not yet.
So, why oh why doesn't the Congress
vote for a freeze in government spending until that goal is realized.

jethro wrote on Sep 1, 2009 9:37 AM:

I disagree. Anger should be directed toward the government that lied to the American Public to drive us into the quagmire we are in in the middle east at the moment. Anger should be directed at the government that cut the Veteran's Administration budget by billions of dollars to pay for the war, with the result that the VA cannotafford to give all of the resulting wounded the care and treatment they were promised when they signed their lives to their contract. Anger should be directed at the government that allowed corporations to essentially raid the Treasury, and deceive the American people with shady practices that led us to the recession we are in at the moment. If we were not spending trillions of dollars on the GOP's war with the world, we might be able to afford to take care of our own in a compassionate, Christian manner.

george soros wrote on Aug 31, 2009 11:37 AM:

Not that the Middle East crisis has anything to do with the health care debate, but anger should be vented toward the terrorists who perpetrated the 11 Sept 2001 attacks on America.

Jethro wrote on Aug 31, 2009 4:08 AM:

Who gets to pay for the last 8 years of war?

Who gets to pay for the thousands of veterans with mental and emotional problems because of this war?

Who gets to pay outrageous gas prices just to be able to get to work so we can earn a paycheck so we can pay outrageous gas prices?

Who has been paying to kill men women and children around the world, thus creating more terrorists, so we have to pay more money to kill men women and children around the world?

The answer? We do, and so will our children and our children's children.

Thanks GOP.

I say get rid of the "Czars" in all administrations:
Gerald Ford (1974-1977) had 2
Jimmy Carter (1977-1981) had 2
Ronald Reagan (1981-1989) had 1
George H. W. Bush (1989-1993) had 2
Bill Clinton (1993-2001) had 5
George W. Bush (2001-2009) had 26
Barack Obama (7 months in 2009)has 34.

They are NOT accountable to anyone but the President and are not elected by the people or approved by Congress/Senate. Everyone of Bush’s ‘czars’ passed the FBI background check. Several of Obama’s czars are felons.

NoGod wrote on Aug 29, 2009 10:04 AM:

Oh and you stole all of your talking points from a Glenn Beck show the other day :) Did you know that Reagan and W had just as many Czars? Did you know your god Karl Rove was the domestic policy Czar? Quit making mountains out of mole hills.

Thank you Richard for a well written letter. Look out for the far left Obama loonies that will want to make you out to look like an idiot. MOre of us need to stand up and ask these questions.

As for DeFazio, unfortunately he had not read HB 2300, as he did not know his material. Page 16 says that private health care will be phased out.

Do you realize that the government will have access to your checking accounts (page 58-59)? ALL financial information (page 195)? Medicare will be cut ($500,000,000,000). Rationing, anyone, as the elderly are considered expendable.

The IRS will become a bigger watch dog than it already is. Scary stuff.

Instead of believing this president, some of you need to put on thinking cap and look for the facts.

Two America's. Us and them. With us or against us.

Blame the government. Don't trust the government.

I think it was fifth grade when I learned that in this country we are the government.

Quit crying, quit complaining and get involved. Be the government, that way the only one you will have to blame is yourself. I guess you can do that now if you are doing nothing.

i am still waiting to see the tv and news media give the daily troop death @injured report like they did for george bush. seems like the big O's way of handleing the wars is not working out

Justice for All wrote on Aug 28, 2009 10:52 AM:

If Obama had pulled all of our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan you people would be in here freaking out about how we aren't safe anymore. Using Bush and Cheney's arguments, Obama's presidency has been a huge success because we haven't been attacked.

But by all means keep making it all about the deficit. Don't worry about how bad things could have gotten with our economy if Obama hadn't acted fast. Imagine what 20% unemployment would have done to county; I guess you can just ignore the lessons from the Great Depression. At least he got something done, and to argue that the stimulus plan did nothing is simply ignorant.

All I see from you people are complaints. Where are the suggestions? Do you have anything else to say other than, "NO!"?

So true Reedsport. He said he had the answer to end the wars. I see that now he has signed on to President Bush's withdrawel plan from Iraq. He has sent more troops to Afghanistan. He has not closed Guantanamo Bay. We just had the highest military death toll in Afghanistan. Where is the outrage from the left now? Where are the college students that were protesting? Where are the voices raised in protest now that he has not lived up to his promises? Nowhere to be heard. How agreeable to war the left is when it is their guy in the White House.

Reedsport wrote on Aug 27, 2009 1:58 PM:

The wars are clearly Obama's to win or lose now.

And Pakistan?
