SUNRIVER — Brad Bryant had a one-stroke lead over defending champion Fred Funk after the first two rounds of the Jeld-Wen Tradition at Crosswater Golf Club.
Bryant was steady Friday with an even-par 72 that gave him a 10-under 134 in the fourth of five majors on the Champions Tour this year.
Funk shot 67 to reach 9 under through two rounds, while Loren Roberts, John Cook and Larry Mize were in a group another shot back entering the third round.
Bryant built a big lead with a first-round 62 that matched the tournament record. Tom Watson shot 62 in the second round in 2003, when the tournament was played in Aloha, and Doug Tewell had a final-round 62 in 2001, when the event was held in Scottsdale, Ariz.
PGA Tour
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Chris Riley’s best round of the year has pushed him into a share of the lead at the Wyndham Championship.
Riley shot a 63 to move to 11-under 129 and claim a share of the lead with Ryan Moore during an incomplete second round at the PGA Tour’s final event before the playoffs.
Moore was at 11 under through 17 holes and Jeff Maggert was at 10 under with one hole remaining when play was halted shortly after 8 p.m. due to darkness. Tournament organizers continue to play catch-up after Thursday’s four-hour weather delay.
Safeway Classic
NORTH PLAINS — Top-ranked Lorena Ochoa is among those in the field for next week’s Safeway Classic at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.
Organizers announcing the field on Friday said money leader Cristie Kerr, the defending tournament champion, will also play in the LPGA event.
Ochoa won the tournament in 2007.
The Safeway Classic is moving this year to the Ghost Creek Course at Pumpkin Ridge after a long run at Columbia Edgewater Country Club near Portland International Airport.
Tiger to play
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Tiger Woods has entered The Barclays next week, an indication that the world’s No. 1 player plans to compete in all four FedEx Cup playoff events for the first time.
Woods is assured of being the No. 1 seed when the PGA Tour playoffs begin Thursday. A new points system means players can lose more ground if they take a week off. Woods skipped the opening playoff event the first year of the FedEx Cup in 2007, won the last two tournaments and easily captured the $10 million bonus prize. He did not play last year because of knee surgery.
The Barclays will be played at Liberty National in Jersey City, N.J.
Woods has not played a regular PGA Tour event in the New York area since 2003.
