Fire restrictions tighten

Tuesday, August 18, 2009 |
The Coos Forest Protective Association today is imposing tighter restrictions for loggers in some areas.
The agency increased the Industrial Fire Precaution Level to 3 on all private, county, state and U.S. Bureau of Land Management lands within regulated use zones CS-5 and SK-2. A Level 2 will take effect in zone CS-4.
Under a Level 3 closure, loggers in part are prohibited from:
• Cable yarding — except that gravity operated logging systems with non-motorized carriages may operate before 1 p.m. and after 8 p.m. All blocks and moving lines must be suspended 10 feet above ground, except the line between the carriage and the chokers.
• Power saws — except at loading sites and at tractor skidder operations before 1 p.m. and after 8 p.m.
For more in-depth information on rules, call the 24-hour closure information line at 267-1789 or access CFPA’s Web site at
